No, NBA 2K11 was far superior to NBA 2K10 and NBA 2K9.

I didn't like NBA 2K9, first time I didn't play the series (traded it in after 2 weeks) since 2K2. NBA 2K10 was so full of issues, bugs, league games dropping, I got rid of that too.

But NBA 2K11, with Jordan, classic teams, and the editing abilities, was far different from any other NBA 2K game is the series.

Now this, I assume, will have some sort of Magic, Bird game mode, like the Jordan challenge. And maybe even another Jordan challenge. That's enough for me.

And the price hasn't changed. NBA 2K has been 59.99 (on 360 and Ps3) since NBA 2K6 come out on Xbox 360 in 2005. And NBA 2K11 was dropped to 39.99 sometime in Feb, I think? I actually bought a copy for my cousin when it dropped.
I agree that 2k11 was much better than previous years. And that's just based off of small sample sizes since I'm forced to play on my friends' consoles and whatnot, but just with features alone I think it trumped 2k10. I agree that the AI could use a little work (like your teammates actually being useful) just to make gameplay better, but as a whole, I'm pretty satisfied with what they put out. Of course, I hope 2k12 is better, but I realize that no game is going to be perfect.

2k10 was a massive disappointment. even the navigation menus sucked. id take 2k9 over 2k10 in a heartbeat.

Whoooosh, everything I said went over your head.

2k11 is the same platform engine as 2k09. Improvements, additions, yes. Same under the hood, pretty much.

Not really. I understood everything you said. You're one of those people that seems to think that gameplay should be overhauled every year.

What do you want, exactly?

I think the gameplay on NBA 2K is fine. I've always preferred it over Live.

I can also appreciate risk that games take like Elite, even though that bombed. And I can appreciate developers taking chances on games like Backbreaker.

I think the gameplay for Madden is fine, NBA 2K is fine. But there's always people out there who complain about games "being the same" every year.

So develepers should completely switch engines every cycle?

Or you might say, come out with a game every 2 or 3 years. Well, we know that ain't happening.

The gameplay is all right, but there are a few things that need to be fixed. For example why do your teammates on the wing always stop at the three point line during a fast break instead of going to the basket?

Also the passing system needs to be fixed. How often do you pass the ball to a player you didn´t mean to give it to?! Way too much!

I liked how you could control your hands in the demo of NBA Elite. You really had more controll of your player.

Plus I would add some things to make the game look more real. For example add the introduction of the starting lineup! I don´t get how you can not have it in! What about technical fouls or flagrant fouls? That are all important parts that need to be added.

Overhaul the engine sooner than once every 4 years, yes. NBA 2k08 was the first year for this engine, NBA 2k12. Developers used to overhaul every year. I don't look at Elite's mismanagement and consider that the norm by any means, if anything that is the exception. Elite should be a lesson to all, that 1. New generations should be in development early, and 2, get your customer feedback early and often, don't be secretive until the last minute.

It's because EA went to a 3 year cycle, that 2k was able to slip in and steal customers. Now if NBA 2K08 was completely awesome to begin with, THAT is when it makes sense to hold onto your engine and UI for a few years. But NBA 2K08 was weak, and barely better than Live. Of course, this is pretty much what I said in my first post, therefore that's where the whoooosh comes in, because I'm repeating.

For me, it isn't that limited, because I'm a PC gamer, so I have all of the mods to hold me over, but I definitely see a lot of room for improvement, yet all of this gets ignored.

Mind you, we are the customer, we SHOULD demand better. Not become tolerant of the same old game with a new box and a new feature. Especially when some of the old fan-favorite features were never restored. ie: Why does every created player in 2k look the same? You mean after 13 years of 3D create-a-player, one of the most popular features in sports games, and after 3-4 years on the same engine, new players still look like they are all inbred from the same family? The same announcer programming that repeats the same comments 6-7 times a game?
They make a lot of money on this game, we should demand better. Instead, they just coughed up a few millions in royalties that could have been put into development, for what? ANOTHER Jordan cover, a Bird cover, and a Magic cover.

Well, I couldn't disagree with you more that NBA 2K8 was "weak." I thought NBA 2K8 was a great game. I couldn't disagree with you more that NBA 2K8 was barely better than Live 08. It blew Live 08 out of the water. Live started to get better in 09, and Live 10 was pretty good. Not sure why the graphics went back in time on Elite.

I did not like NBA 2K9 because they seemed to take the defense out of it, even though the basic gameplay is the same. NBA 2K10 was better, but was full of bugs. Which is why I started playing Live 09 and 10 more than the previous 5 editions.

I demand better, but I feel features are important. Once you have a solid gameplay engine, then you build on that with solid features. It's like building a sports team, once you get that franchise player (gameplay), then you build around the franchise player with solid role players (features).

I don't need gameplay to change, just for the sake of change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And I think the core gameplay for NBA 2K is perfectly fine.

You keep talking about how much they pay Jordan, like I said in my previous post, the game is still $59.99. The game was $59.99 when Shaq was on the cover, it's $59.99 with Bird or MJ on the cover. If they got Jordan, then the game went up to $79.99, then you'd have an argument.

And when they added Jordan to the cover, they also added an improved My Player, the Jordan my player and the Jordan Challenge. So the argument of "they spent all the money on Jordan and ignored everything else" can't be made. Then people default to the gameplay. Well, I think the gameplay is fine.

As for the commentary, I've been saying for years that games should think about just hiring their own broadcast teams. Guys like Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellogg don't have the time to do enough commentary to make the game as good as it should be.

My idea is that a company like EA should hire a retired, or former, play-by-play and color guys. Then make it their full-time job to do specific team and player commentary. Then they can also do commentary that can be patched in during the season and after trade deadlines. But then you run into this argument that it wouldn't be realistic. Then I shoot back with "when was the last time you heard Clark Kellogg call an NBA game?"

Kush,

Honestly...just saying...why don't these games hire sound alikes? I mean, Harlan and Kellogg are not THAT important to the game, and they can become redundant over time so most people start to ignore them anyway. But If I was 2k Sports...I would hire guys who sound like Harlan and Kellogg (I hear people mimic them all the time), and have them update from time to time, with Harlan and Kellogg's permission of course. Using their names and likenesses would keep them paid, but I think it would be cool to have that available for constant updates throughout the season...especially now that ps3 and XBox have mastered the ability to update games (e.g. the personal computer and mac).

Just a thought...

Your teammates always stop at the 3pt line because that's 2k's way of making the game harder. I don't really like it that much, but I suppose it does (unfairly) prevent easy points for you. As for passing to the wrong player, just icon pass. I thought with 2k11 you had a lot of control of your player as well, but maybe that's just me. Technical fouls would be hard to implement in a video game because there's really no room for the arguing that would lead to a technical. I'm sure a lot of people would complain anyway. I would like the starting lineup thing though.

I think 2k12 is really gimmicky now. I don't like the cover designs at all.

I'm 2k all the way. There isn't enough money that you could pay me to play Live or Madden for that matter.

Anti EA.

Well, this is the point of my spurt. 2K has the fanbase now, but that is something they have to continuously upkeep and improve. This is why Live lost their base.

Live lost me after Live 99. And this is from a guy who played it when it was Laker vs. Celtics.
