what?!

As of now:
405 Homeruns, 284 BA .360 OBP and an 863 OPS.

yeah konerko doesnt do much, not a savior or anything.

He has been above average 1B for most of his career, but only the past couple of seasons are truly elite level production. There is a pertty big gap between a Konerko and a Pujols. The point he was trying to make, which is accurate, is that Rizzo's ceiling is probably much closer to a Konerko than a Pujols, which is a very good player but not that truly elite level bat for 1B.

Everyone for all times ceiling is Paulie than Albert. It's a terrible analogy to call any prospect ceiling to be a hall of famer. See wood and Prior and Griffin and Cunningham

Rizzo by most accounts is a 30+ homerun guy if he reaches his peak. He is a guy that will work the count which should result in a high OBP, and he doesn't have major contact issues which should result in a decent to good average. I don't see what is wrong in saying that Rizzo's ceiling is around Konerko's career OPS.

And seriously can we stop with the Wood, Prior, Cunningham, Griffin, etc. Wood and Prior had talent but injuries derailed their careers. That can happen to anyone, but the idea that we should expect htat to happen to Rizzo because we are the Cubs is stupid. Cunningham, Griffin were never that good to begin with. Just to put things in perspective neither of those guys were in AAA by age 21 and neither of those have put numbers close to what Rizzo did in AAA last year and this year.

Furthermore, list me all the things Konerko has led the league in during his tenure.

Right, cuz your lineup would be what?
CF Matt Kemp
LF Josh Hamilton
RF Jacoby Ellsbury
3B Ryan Zimmerman
2B Robinson Cano
SS Starlin Castro
1B Adrian Gonzalez
and C Brian McCann

with a rotation of
Garza
Hamels
Cain
Wainwright
and Ricky Romero
and because Ricketts loves to spend we'll get Chapman give him 100 million dollars and make him the closer. :troll:

Damn I love bbr

As you'll see there, the average 1B puts up a .797 OPS. Konerko is clearly an above average 1B, and not much more.

Paulie is top 1-2% of first basemen to ever play the game. Most players would take his career in a heart beat

No, and I really like and respect Konerko, but the top 1-2% is tall timber.

1-2% is Gehrig, Pujols, Foxx, Greenburg, Murray territory. Paulie reminds me a lot of Gil Hodges.

And actually, kick Murray off that list. Killebrew in front of Murray. Dunno what the hell I was thinking.

:homer:

If that were the case he would be a no doubt about Hall of Famer which by your own admission he is not at this point.

I agree about the second part of the post, but that has nothing to do with what the discussion is about. The point is that Rizzo's ceiling is likely to be a guy that is consistently above average instead of a guy that puts up truly elite seasons at the position like Pujols did consistently. That description matches Konerko pretty well, and as I posted earlier I don't see what is outlandish about saying that if Rizzo develops the way he is projected to put up a similar OPS.

If you count everyone that played first base maybe the number at worst is 5%

And yes he isn't a HOFer yet. I do believe he will be and that is 1-2%

Come on are we seriously comparing Frank Thomas to Paul Konerko here. I mean they aren't in the same category as hitters. Thomas would be a savior type bat, imo.

Konerko is a more well rounded player, but the only thing Konerko is better at than Thomas is playing defense.
