Lamarr Houston blows knee celebrating a sack down 30

It's not just about stats. He hasn't been effective in relation to his contract.

And as much as I realize that it's the trendy thing to ignore stats and looking at "other things", because it creates a juxtaposition with people who only talk stats and makes people think they sound like they understand football better, the fact is that sacks ARE important. Or at least getting to the QB fairly regularly. Houston doesn't.

It's not trendy though, Emery highlighted the stats that backed why he brought him in, and then others continued what he highlighted on here when the guy signed. He isn't a sack artist, he never was. Of course sacks are important, I've never thought otherwise. That isn't why he is here though. I'll stick by what I said and what you quoted me on.

A healthy Ratliff, Paea playing well and all around soild play from the interior of the line is the #1 reason for the improved run defense, imo. Houston has helped too, but he's overpaid for what he gives you.

That's what happens when you have to fill holes in the open market. Those elite pass rushers or even very good ones tend to not make it to free agency.

So it was a case of having a water bucket full of holes with not enough plugs, IMO.

Lamar Houston is one of the all time biggest clowns for celebrating like he just won the Super Bowl when we were getting destroyed by 25 points. Serves him right for tearing his ACL. Unfortunately he's not good at football but got a huge contract despite not doing anything for Oakland. Oakland had all the cap space in the world and still wouldn't offer him anything -- how telling is that?

Actually he's the one that wanted to go elsewhere, but I guess that wouldn't work in this narrative.

I hope this shit humbles him, and he plays better for us next year. We're stuck with him so all we can do is hope for the best.

95% of players in the league celebrate sacks and other good plays no matter the score. This a lot to do about nothing.

I'm with you. Even 3-4 ends in Pittsburgh wander into a sack now and then. His job is to play DL. He is allowed to run after the man with the ball. Houston is not a good pass rusher. Assignment is no excuse.

They could have kept Wooten to be a run stopping DE for a fraction of the price.

I thought Houston was doing his job so far, our biggest issue last season was stopping the run and I thought we had improved on that a fair bit so far this year.

However, the sack dance was ridiculous at that point of the game. I wish more players acted like Barry Sanders, act like you've been there before and be classy.

Only a weak ass HC like tress would be ok with a "celebration" in a game where we're getting blown out.

well we once gave up 2 first round draft choices for a qb that can't win and can't get in & outta' consecutive games without a turnover.
