Compaq killed HP's culture and quality image

My first PC-compatible was a Compaq Presario. It was also my first experience with proprietary parts and other fun things like soldered memory. It was $1800.00 of pure Windows 3.1 crap. Years later, not learning my lesson, I made the mistake of buying an HP/Compaq laptop. That was my first experience with an overheating spontaneous shutdown POS and the mysterious battery glitch.

That was enough for me. With the exception of a handful of printers (which are also disposable crap) I haven't bought an HP since.

I have a question for the Tech guys. When you trace a persons IP address, what information exactly does one find out? Location, personal info?

Damn, I was late. I would have suggested a USB/CDR bootup virus scan(among a few other things).

We had a post like this not long ago, and I thought it was just more back and fourth between a few posters bumping it up. Shoulda checked the dates.

Also, laptops. HP also stands for HDD and PSU. Which are the first things to go in nearly every HP laptop.

Get an external drive and do periodic backups. And keep the backup off site like at a relatives house or an office desk
