Just got back from vegas myself- I booked a room, paid 30 for early check in.
When I got to the desk (ahead of 100 or so others waiting in the regular line) I put a 20 between my ID and credit card, and asked if there were any upgrades.
The lady gave me top floor, corner, strip view, hot tub, and sent champagne every night.

It also overlooked the pool, but waaaaay too far up to see anything.
for reference, I had booked a higher end room to begin with, so it wasnt economy to suite.

The best part about the whole deal was the elevators- there were 4 elevators that serviced floors 1-30. there were another 4 that serviced 31-36. for 36, I had to insert my key card in a slot and the floor number would light up, and go directly up no matter what other floors were lit.
totally worth the extra 50 all told.

Sure does- I was complimentary to the lady, asked how her day was and listened to her response, and didnt dive right in begging for freebies.
BUT- i think the single biggest factor was that I paid ahead for early check in... I was able to get the goodies before the massive flock of regular check ins got their grubby paws on them.

Reminds me of when I went there this past 4th of July. Valet was "full" and they were turning away all the cars ahead of us. I slipped the valet guy a $20, and he said he can find a spot for me. I think Vegas will always remain that way, given all the cash that's constantly flowing around.

The front desk $20 trick is a Vegas tradition going back forever. airtime got a great return on investment, I've gotten room upgrades many times, never got any Champagne though. It's not always that successful, but the worst thing I ever heard when trying that is they just return the $20, so there is no reason not to try it.

The really strange part is I've had $150 a night room upgrade for 7 nights for $20, and 2 night upgrade for the same. The front desk people don't seem to care about the length of stay.

Anybody that doesn't use the $20 trick is either a chump or a high roller getting top rooms for free.

Well played and noted for my future visits.

Casino's don't care about making profits on their hotel rooms. There goal is to keep you there and keep you in the Casino.

Any other cool stories?

LOL. I actually laughed. Good point. I have stories that would curl your toes but I think I would get fired if I started telling them. Like the weekend Kyle Orton got really drunk at the Hard Rock and we punked his room

Or watching topless photo shoots at the pool from inside the switchroom. Hard Rock has the hottest women in Vegas. Hands down. I was there when they were interviewing applicants to work in their new lounge named Vanity. Never seen so many hot women in one place in my life.

....never got any Champagne though..

That was a nice little treat- maybe T.I. uses that as a default nicety. every time the guy or gal delivered, they had a cart with quite a few of those free standing champagne buckets.
I doubt that many people would order them, so I assumed they were comps.

on another note... how about the resort fees? every hotel has them now. I tried to get those waived, but no luck.
It sucks that they all tout free wifi and swimming pool and whatnot... it isn't free, it is covered in the resort fee.

For anyone going, remember almost every room rate has 30 bucks give or take tacked on to the daily price in the form of a resort fee.
Here is a list of resort fees by hotel, and at the bottom it has a list of the hotels that don't charge one. The ones that dont charge a fee appear to be shitholes for the most part.

I've been more times than I care to count, I can fly Virgin down there for next to nothing and usually stay at Aria or Encore at a super-cheap rate, if not free.

Done pretty much all there is to do in that town, as they say, I "left it all on the field". Lots of crazed memories, and unfortunately some things I try to un-remember.

Anyway, fast forward to now, and my only personal rule currently that relates to Vegas is a 24-hour max stay. One big night out, one big day, maybe a Hold 'em tournament, and then GTFO. My oats have been sown time and again there, i can do all the gambling i want locally and I don't cheat on Mrs. Crattt, so that lessens the attraction. Only thing i miss there is.......the endless eye-candy/people-watching.

Going to Las Vegas in a couple weeks, let's hear your experiences. Good, Bad, etc.

Obviously going to be getting drunk pool-side and gambling a shit ton.

LOL how cute... a little Vegas virgin baby dick.

Hope you are alive.

JK - did you try the Golden Steer off the strip? Being SRS that it's one of the best unknown steak houses in Vegas.

I partied with Bulls 1982 1st round draft pick Quintin Dailey for about 10 hours one night back in 2007 or 2008. He was a wild man, and kind of scared me. It was fun and one of the most interesting nights I ever spent in Vegas.

As far as I know, no one was arrested.
