Glad to see Ben Smith back, hope he comes back 100 percent after that shoulder injury and is back with the big club in the fall.

I hope he isn't.

I think he is terribly overrated among the prospects. He isn't bad for a call up but I wouldn't want him to be a full time 3rd or 4th liner.

I agree, many over rate him because of an OT goal. He has lots to develop before he makes the club

no. just no. ben smith on the 4th line would be a very good thing. Bumping him to the 3rd line here and there is fine too. He is just better than most of the players some of you :fap: about which is crazy.

we support bruno on the PP unit but dont support ben smith on the team. funny shit.

Then why wasn't he on the roster last year. Others were called up before him. They want him to develop for a better role than a 4th liner which I am fine with him developing him in a top 6 role in Rockford.

I wouldn't take Ben Smith on the 4th line. He doesn't exactly play that type of role that a 4th liner should. Honestly, I rather have Bollig than Smith on the 4th line...and it doesn't have that much to do with Bollig being a fighter and Smith not being one. Is Smith the all around better player than Bollig? Yes, but Bollig is a better 4th liner and better for the team in my opinion.

Smith is pretty average in all aspects of the game but he gives it his all...unfortunately sometimes that isn't enough.

I think he is fine for a call up but I wouldn't want to see him on the team for good.

Here are some free agent names that I am thinking many are overlooking but should/could be on the Blackhawks radar. I don't think the Blackhawks will be major players and will likely have to go for second tier type guys in a shallow free agent pool.

Jason Garrison - while I think this is a longshot because he will likely get overpaid and Hammer would have to be traded, he would help out the PP in a big way from the point.

Hal Gill - as a number 6 type of guy. Not the fastest guy in the world but he uses his size to make up for that.

Ryan Smyth - if he doesn't sign with the Oilers, he could fit in nicely with the Blackhawks where they could definitely use him around the net.

Paul Gaustad - another guy I feel will be overpaid but he brings a lot to the table defensively and would help out the PK, especially at the faceoff dot.

Travis Moen - would definitely help out the 4th line and the PK

Sheldon Souray - Would be a #6 type guy and would help out the PP in a big way. Coming off a big contract though and he may want to get paid like he used to.

Brandon Prust - another 4th liner who can play the game of hockey but knows his role.

grrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat! you want another offseason like last year! awesome! ryan smyth? travis moen? souray?

souray is 36- he is for sure the answer.
moen- really bad
ryan smyth- again 36!

what is your fascination with old has been players? none of those players make us contenders. Are you stan bowman in disguise? serious question.

I wonder if we can get Roenick to comeback, maybe Goulet too.....I heard chelios is available!

What else are the Blackhawks going to do? Have to worry about cap space. Move forward with that realization and you will see that these are players that should be on their radar for several reasons. EDIT: I even noted that I don't see the Blackhawks being players for the big guys unless moves happen to clear up some more cap space.

I didn't say they were the answer, but just that they could be players that the Blackhawks could/should look at and could feel an area of need.

Calling Travis Moen bad is ridiculous. He is a very solid 4th liner in the NHL and there is a reason so many teams try to trade for him come every deadline. He plays a very defined role and he does it very well, all while chipping in and playing the game of hockey.

Ryan Smyth is a has been? He isn't what he was but he can still play and played well on an Oilers team last year.

Jokinen is 33...not too far off from 36 and will require more money than souray or smyth

3 years is a big deal in the hockey world. smyth does nothing to help this team. if you and hawkposter want to have the same type of offseason as last year thats cool, just dont get pissed when they arent very good.

Unload Bolland and Frolik for anything. Go all in for Parise. Move Kane to second line Center. And with whatever money left over add a solid D man.

Offseason Ovaaaaa!

Hawks need more than one solid d-man. Oduya doesn't count.
