Let's say Front Office decides Fields isn't the answer and drafts a QB. Smart play is to still Start Fields next year.

Tough to imagine?

I mean; if he plays the rest if this year like he has in 21 of the last 23 games I can imagine his possible trade return being diminished
He's got way more potential than Darnold ever did, plus he played great in more than 2 games. Darnold sucked even worse than Fields.

What great passing games has he really had outside the recent 2? He had a few ok games and few great games running and the rest were like weeks 1-2-3-5 this year....blah to awful

I didn't write that he had great passing games outside the recent 2. I wrote that he had great games, and he undoubtedly did. He was considered a break out star for like a month last year.

Yeah, a 3 game stretch last yeat as a great RB1

Point is, he doesn't have much tape that shows he's actually a good qb....put out 10 more games of garbage (14-27 150 yards 2 turnovers and 90% losses) and its entirely feasible his value diminishes.

That said; there are plenty of dipshits like Poles and Pace who will overpay for his services...competing vs......nobody else.

Did Sam Darnold have great tape? Josh Rosen? Sam Bradford for a 1st? Trey Lance for a 4th?

Fields had a really good 7 game stretch last year, from NE through Philly.

GMs are willing to take risks on talented QBs, especially ones who have played in crap orgs with bad OLs.

You obviously hate Fields but I think there's a good chance some GM thinks he's worth a couple second day picks.

If I recall correctly, the 6th was for the current year and the 2nd and 4th were for the following year so I think your estimate is a bit optimistic.
That's right. But I would say Fields is probably more valuable than Darnold by a good amount. Darnold was bad with NYJ and never displayed the talent Fields has.

To me, here's why.

Right now, when you look at the state of the Bears, the offensive line is shit and the coaching is shit.

Let's say they draft whomever QB x is, and replaced the coaching staff with better coaches.

Start Fields, and let the rookie sit at least half the year, up until the trade deadline.

By doing that, you take a situation where if you didn't Fields walks away for nothing, and instead you have this situation:

Fields begins the season starting. Lets say you draft new offensive linemen. They will need time to gel. You need time to see what you got. Let Fields take the beating from those growing pains instead of your shiny new toy.

If Fields starts out bad in the new offense, you make the call by game 3-4 and switch QBs, by which the offensive line, if the draft got it right, is now solid for your rookie QB to play behind. You let the rookie learn on the job the rest of the year and Fields walks.

If Fields catches fire, and looks good for the first half of the season, now you have flexibility. Do you want to trade him before the deadline? You might get some actual value out of him if this scenario happens. Or, he could just end up being so damn good, that the GM and staff determine it was bad coaching holding him back this whole time, and you re-sign Fields and have a situation where you now have the flexibility to either trade or just hold onto your first round overall pick.

Thoughts?

*Edit* - Yeah, I thought Fields was in his 4th year, not his 3rd. I changed the title and adjusted the post because I still think starting him next year is the right move, no matter who we draft, for the reasons I stated.

For you trolls who think I can never admit when I make a mistake, there you go.
Hahahahahahahahahaa

I’ll say this as well. If they finish outside of the top 2 and can’t get one of these QB it isn’t out of the realm to just keep Fields. Maybe give him a Jordan Love type deal for two years. Yes he has flaws but he is still a starter in the NFL with potential. I’m not giving him up until I know I have a new option.
Weird seeing someone who keeps telling me to get over Fields was still for keeping fields during a time where #Gay4Maye, a @Anytime23 campaign was already capturing the minds of millions of Bears fans across the nation.

You are obsessed with me. Do you need a friend?

Key point I said was outside of the top 2, at this time I’ll be honest Daniels wasn’t on my radar (I was wrong) it was Caleb or Maye both of which I would have taken over H1M. I’ve been very consistent on this so what’s your point? In hindsight I’d take any of the 6 QBs drafted over H1M.

I don’t quote you, I don’t respond to you. So why are you doing this? Get a life.

Do you suffer from some kind of multiple personality disorder or are you just being disingenuous?
