Ah, that makes sense. I just read a thing saying he is gon work with the show to finish the series either way. But then is still going to finish the series in book form, but they will be different. That could be real cool and seems like a great solution for letting him take whatever time he needs for the books.

he may but time is running out and with his development deal, who knows... funny story. I moved away from NM just when book 5 came out. Literally at that point Martin moved to NM and bought the artsy cinema I used to go to. Now he screens the seasons of the show early for his friends there.

Its interesting that you talk about TV being his first love and whatnot cause now that I think about it, the books read a lot like a season of a series. Within a book, the arcs are really episodic and also fragmented into parallel narratives. And they books digress a LOT. I imagine an ambitious editor could cut them down like 400 pages or more. Which would be a shame, cause I think the digressions mostly work and let the reader kind of live in that world.

Is Penney Dreadful any good? I started the first episode but fell asleep. Don't know if it was boring or I was just exhausted.

I"m a couple episodes behind in the 2nd season but IMO the 1st season drags at times, to me the 2nd season is much better.

Have we mentioned Rectify in this thread? It started back tonight, and I think it's one of the three best shows on TV.

Just watched all of the available Mr. Robot episodes, through episode 8.

Just gotta day, damn. That shit is good. Here are my thoughts...

Acting is generally exceptional. Christian Slater is maybe the weakest of the bunch. The main character is very very good. So understated but still very expressive. Can portray a pretty wide range with zero dialog.

Main story is very good, but its mostly the characters that make it so compelling. Sub plots are exceptional in that they are interesting, but most of all, they actually develop the characters and drive the narrative forward. Its a nice departure from the typical parallel arcs that are usually used to add bullshit fluff and fill out seasons. Some good surprises too that aren't forced and again, actually serve the narrative rather than distract from it.

Characters are mostly multidimensional and have depth and independent motivations and trajectories.

Dialog is a little up and down, ranging from average-ish to good. Rarely great imo.

Writing is overall fucking amazing. The overdubbed narration tends to be overly expositional and self indulgent - but I don't even care. Its so fucking good. So well written with actual thematic relevance.

Overall, imo, this show is covering worn ground thematically, but is managing amazing levels of authenticity and sincerity. It has 2-3 min passages with zero dialog that are intense as ****. And on the flipside, the narrator exposition dumps are a pleasure to listen to. Which is insanely rare. The action sequences are appropriate and never over done. All of the self indulgence in this series is intellectual and I love it. Imo, best show in years.

I started watching Sons of Anarchy last week.... good enough to keep my interest, but I am happy I am watching it after it finished airing.... binge watching it is interesting but if I was stuck waiting for new episodes week to week with this show I would probably forget about it at times.

It is very much a binge watching kinda show, isn't it? String together 3,4,5 episodes and you get some interesting story arcs, but individual episodes alone don't necessarily hold you on the edge of your seat.

Pretty much... I know I can binge watch it now, but it just hasn't peaked my interest. I keep trying to get into new shows now.

Maybe I'll start it tonight after I get sick of listening to Peyton Manning's Omaha's.
