There isn't much to look forward too in 2013. Paulie, Dunn, AJ, Thornton, Youk, are all old. Crain & Alexei are 31 and will be on the wrong side of their careers next year. The Sox can't rely on them anymore (especailly the older guys) to be the heart of the team. Youk likely won't be traded and the Sox blow donkey balls at the 3B position beyond Youk. There's dick in the farm system, so there's nothing to look forward to there either.

IMO, this year is the last year for a long while that these guys get a shot at a WS.

Hopefully Hahn can work some magic in the off season; some really, really awesome magic. Like Harry Potter meets Houdini magic. Because that's what it is going to take to have a contending team in the next few years.

I dont see it that way at all.

heres the holes due to FAcy

3B, C, SP

Move rios for a younger 3Bmn or re sign youk which he will come at a good price im sure.
Move Rios for cash and a low spec
make a deal for an outfielder either FA or trade
go big or go home with he SPng

Anyone thinking that you keep rios because of this year is a fool. Using the Adam Dunn arguement is semi we todd did. Adam Dunn with exception of last year hits bombs and walks...thats what he does, plus he is a LHd stick. Rios is inconsistent and not worth the money. getting that contract off the books plus peavys contract being gone would help a whole lot moving forward.

Agreed. Bring back Youk, AJ, and Meyers. Get another arm for the rotation to replace Peavy. Move Rios. Peavy off the book helps, if you can move Rios PROFIT.

For the new outfielder if they move Rios, they don't need to get fancy. I'd be fine with a guy you can bat lower in the line up who can get on base and play good defense, and not necessarily a slugger.

I had a boner for Swisher, but yeah, that price....

Maybe Ryan Sweeney? Had a poor year in Boston, but he usually has a solid OBP, and plays pretty good defense.

Rios has been great this year. Unfortunately he's been really inconsistent, so with his production this year and his value as high as it's been since he came to Chicago, it makes sense to shop him to shed salary and hopefully get a good return for the future.

As for Dunn, his .OBP and HR power are two very valuable assets that he possesses. The Ks are overlooked because he can get on base with his BB rate and produce via the long ball.

Factually speaking Rios is better, younger, and cheaper than Adam Dunn. That said, the value of Rios is way higher than Dunn. Both players have peaked at their potential IMO (e.g. Dunn isn't going to hit .260 and RIos isn't going to launch 30 taters)

I'd also try to get a friendly deal with Peavy. After Sale he's teh team's best pitcher. He'd be a 15-17 game winner right now if he got run support too

I am digging thru the numbers and I realize to each their own, but Rios for a career is a better fielder, better runner, better base stealer, better WAR. Is Rios better for the past two seasons? Yep. Is he better career wise? Anyone thinking it is an open and shut case has a bias

they arent comparable players! two different types of players! who would you rather have? someone who can field (which is easy to find ) and a high BA (which is easy to find) or a guy who has a career love affair with OBP and OPS and HRS. wow.

You want to continue to pick on me, go right ahead.

Easy to find fielder? No it isn't. Not that can do the other tools.
Easy to find high BA guy? Really? I can't believe you are serious with that.
Someone with a high OBP? he's what 7-10 points higher than Rios right now and he bats where in the lineup?
Someone who hits 40+ homers. Rare. Needed? Not really. See Dave Kingman, Rob Deer for failuers, and see St. Louis Cardinals of the 80's for winners.

What is needed? Consistency. Give me consistency and I will show you winning players.

Look, I agree you trade Rios. But to call Dunn better than Rios the past two years is unjusitifiable. To call him better in careers might and I say might be equally so.

http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.j...e=hitting&page=1&ts=1348518708411&position='O' right those top OFs cant cant hit for avg and play good defense. they are quite easy to find.

A player that can hit 40 hrs is needed as it has been stated millions of times by analysts that the sox specifically have to build a team around their ballpark...if you havent noticed its one of the most friendly hr hitting parks in all of the mlb.

again you cant compare the players but if you had to choose one player you take dunn all day everyday. with exception to last year he is consistent as **** with his OBP/OPS and HRS. he is a slugger and you need atleast one in the lineup to take advantage of the park. if you are talking petco field you take rios. this isnt hard.

First your list showed that Rios is rare at his dollars.

Second Dunn is consistently streaky and no where near consistently good anymore compared to his earlier playing days. It's something you keep missing.

I know the park we play in and a 40 hr guy isn't needed. It's never needed. Want proof? Check out Colorado. You just need good quality ballplayers.
