Rios has gone back and forth from good year to bad year every season since 07 now. As good as he was this year, it's deeply worrying and it looked like he was on pace to be after 2010 too.

Shouldn't our team be ready to replace some of these failing pieces with young farm talent, or at the very least, one or two easy free agent pickups?

Nope. The next 2-3 years will show exactly how depleted the Sox are, especially to those fans that thought 2 playoffs in 1w years was doing a "good" job. Sad but true

looking at it more in depth we need a number 2. and no not peavy. someone to slot (rh) between sale and danks and possibly a 4th starter that isnt gavin floyd...push him back to 5. i bet though that his option gets picked up and he is dealt in the offseason. quintana could be a nice 3rd starter in the NL in a friendly park for pitchers, he doesnt have the skills and mental makeup of buehrle to get away with being a soft tosser at the cell.

i love how some fans bring up rios and how he is worth his contract this year, what about the previous years? what about him being inconsistent? you cant have it both ways. rios needs to go.

First your list showed that Rios is rare at his dollars.

Second Dunn is consistently streaky and no where near consistently good anymore compared to his earlier playing days. It's something you keep missing.

I know the park we play in and a 40 hr guy isn't needed. It's never needed. Want proof? Check out Colorado. You just need good quality ballplayers.

dunn is paid to hit homers and walk: very simple. coming off the year he had last year plus being in the AL with much tougher pitching Id say he is doing just fine with 41 homers and 101 walks while almost missing 2 weeks. but we need "quality ball players" like morel, and fields right? haha

Ummm.. KW is a topic in 1 thread. I'm sorry if the guy you blindly worship comes up as a topic when looking at this bad, bad roster. Hell, all the guys you are looking to not sign/get rid of are all KW guys. And it certainly sucks (for you) that KW has no farm system to replace anyone leaving in free agency. But... It is really only in the KW/Hahn thread, so you are wrong. When you start a new thread about the upcoming season and then talk about all of these guys you want to see gone that are all KW guys, I have no idea why you don't think KW is relevant. This is his mess.

Have you looked at Rios career? the most inconsistent player and highly paid. He also likes to relax in the outfield and take naps.

Where has your boy been in sept? .292/.316 OBP yay he has a nice BA yay!

I don't think AJ should be back. I like him and all, and 2012 was cool, I think he's part of that mind set of the home run or nothing.

Spots in the line up we need to upgrade should be filled with guys who get on base. Hitters who can work a count, not swing at the first pitch and ground out.

So sad... The season is over and next season only looks worse. A bunch of average players sprinkled in with sophomores who have proven to be average at best. Next year, the Sox and KC will be in a huge battle for second/third place.

And KW gets a promotion for this mess... Hahahahhaha. So fucking funny.

I think they laid a good foundation for next year. Sale and Quintana can go longer into the season next year and Danks is coming back. Young arms in the pen are another year older, and more experienced. Pitching is the one thing I am not too worried about for next year barring that they can bring in another solid starter and another good arm for the pen.

Hitting on the other hand....need guys to get on base in front of the sluggers and hope Konerko can not be shit again like he was post May.

Peavy is good, but in big game/important times, he sucks. Love his attitude, but, time to move on.
