Well if Bennett is ours, I'm hoping we sign Lamar Houston and plug him in at DT, if we plan to draft an DE, or leave him outside. The guy is listed as an DE but he can also play DT, which may be his best position, cut Peppers, and convert some of Jays salary next yr to a signing bonus. That should give us the cash needed, with more to spare. I'd then sign Kendrick Lewis to play FS. Trade Briggs to Tampa for a 3rd or 4th. We could move Bostic to that spot, a better position for him anyway. With these three signings, plus the returning Ratliff, and a defensive heavy draft and we should be not only younger, but stronger on that side of the ball. Hopefully there will be enough talent to overcome our DC's obvious lack of coaching skill.
Bennett will help the pass rush, as would Houston. If we sign both and play Houston as an End, imagine in the nickel, we could move both Bennett and Houston inside, with Shea and either Washington or a rookie at the Ends. That should be a pretty good pass rush in the nickel. If we sign Houston as well, he's very versatile, enough to give us some flexibility in the draft. Lewis is a pretty underrated FS, but a clear upgrade over Conte. We could draft another SS somewhere in the first three rounds, Buchanen could be a nice option. I am very excited this time of year, anticipating who the bears are going to bring in. I can't wait for us to bring in the talent to rebuild our usually strong defense, to combine with a newly explosive offense, If we do this properly, I see multiple championships coming home to chicago these next couple of seasons.
