Malik Hooker had surgery Tuesday on a torn labrum and a hernia that he played through late this season. He will miss the Combine.

Pretty impressive Hooker played through those injuries against Michigan and Clemson and still looked like a top 10 player.

Man, that's pretty badass that he played so well.

Hooker's a beast and his best football is ahead of him. He hasn't even fully committed himself to football for that long. He'll definitely go top 10 still.

Hooker was going 100mph on every play of those games. If he was playing with these injuries in those games, he's a God damn super hero and I like him even more now.

and lets say he might someday reach a level of earl thomas

have you guys seen the seahawks DEF without thomas, its not bad but much much worst

having such a guy in the middle of your DEF is an extreme advantage

Malik knew this before any of us and opted to come out. If it was serious enough to drop him significantly, he would not have. Getting cleaned up in the off season isn't uncommon for the NFL. Does anyone even remember him separating a shoulder?

With the rookie salary cap, it's probably in Hooker's best interest to come out now regardless. Getting to FA one year sooner is more valuable than trying to improve your draft position as that extra year of FA is probably worth more than the difference in salary on a rookie contract. Not to mention it's still a possibility that he suffers setbacks and I would much rather get drafted now and rehab while getting paid rather than risk a set back that destroys my value further.

As for the impact of this news, I didn't want a S at 3 to begin with so hopefully this removes any temptation Pace has to pick him. I see no way Pace doesn't address S in FA before the draft so I doubt it would be a need.

Hooker is a great prospect but we have bigger fish to fry IMO so don't see the value in taken an injured prospect particularly in light of Kevin White.

Yea I think Safety is out.

If all the rumors hold true to this point, I think we are looking at Cleveland giving up their 12t oal pick for Jimmy G, taking Garrett with the 1st pick.

That leaves SF to decide the QB dominos...will the take Watson, Trubisky, or Kizer?

I stand corrected. This was an actual legitimate report and walter broke the story well before anyone. Other's have now validated the story and Malik Hooker thanked everyone on twitter for thoughts and prayers. He also said he already had surgery and he's already walking.

He's going to miss the combine but not miss the training camp according to Ian Rappaport. He played through both injuries and played extremely well. Hernia and labrum surgeries are relatively minor and common these days. I really don't think this will effect his draft status all that much.I can't see him dropping out of the top 15.

It was already a slim chance, but I think this rules him out at #3 unfortunately. Pace won't have the cojones to take him 3rd overall, and I don't blame him. Perhaps this raises the possibility of a QB at #3.

Hooker is over rated. Go watch his full game cut ups, yes he makes spectacular interceptions but he misses a TON of tackles and gets badly fooled way to much to be considered a top 5 pick. He's without question a first round talent and definitely has elite upside but if you watch every play, Adams is clearly the superior prospect. Adams flies around, he's always around the ball, he's way better in coverage and run support. Hooker has better range and once in a generation ball skills for the position.

Solomon Thomas should be the pick at 3.

Adams at 3, guy is a stud. Or trade down and get Hooker. Especially if Bears fail to address the safety position in free agency. If I see another mock that has the Bears taking a D-lineman I'll probably lose it. This team needs desperate help in the secondary, hell I'd advocate for a Marshon Lattimore before talking about a 3-4 end that will make "the bears have one of the best young fronts in the league". I'm already on board with that statement, and we used last years 3rd rounder on Bullard who isn't that bad of a prospect himself. Also would take a QB before talking this nonsense. Don't see any point in bolstering this front line when other areas seriously need to be addressed.

Adams is the better play today but Hooker has the higher ceiling. He's only really dedicated himself to football for a few years. His heart was set on basketball for a while and had to be convinced to fully commit to football. He has way more upside, and while his tackling, particularly the angles to the ball need work, it's fixable and really not a FS's primary responsibility. I want my FS to be a ball hawk and be someone the QB has to account for on every play downfield. He's a good tackler when he's in position....he just needs to be in position more consistently.

For what it's worth, I really like Adams too and I think he'll be even better in the pros. I'd love either one of those guys, especially if the Bears traded down a few spots. I'm hoping for one of Adams/Hooker/Thomas. I think Pace will definitely address the secondary in free agency, but it's not something that can be fixed via free agency alone. The secondary was atrocious. Even if Pace finds two starters in free agency, the Bears are still going to need an additional starter via the draft.

I agree, there's no question Hooker has elite upside at free safety, but in terms of taking him at 3, i want a complete safety who is also a ballhawk. I'm not saying he shouldn't be a first round pick but are fans comfortable taking an upside guy at 3? Adams and Hooker both have potential to be elite safeties. Adams i think is a very safe bet to be one. Hooker has more upside, but people act like he's a can't miss prospect. I think he's got a higher upside but way more bust potential.

In the end I think 3 is to high for a safety who isn't essentially a perfect prospect. Adams is pretty close, Hooker seems to risky. I would not be at all upset if they toom him at 3, but i am skeptical that that will happen.

If I could take Earl Thomas at #3 I am certainly interested. If I can take Earl Thomas at #35 I am running to the podium.

Safe to say he won't be an option at #3 and there will be some team late in the 1st who will take a chance on him.

Not really. Team's have known he was playing hurt. He's the same guy people were ready to take in the Top 5. Heck he was doing all of that while he wasn't at his physical best. As long as he interviews right I don't think this changes the game that much.
