This is a direct result of the recession. Hockey was growing in the USA at a strong rate before the recession hit. It was growing young players in new areas which directly resulted in more fans and more revenue for teams.

You can see the sport heavily declining at the youth level in most areas because of the cost. I mean when good skates start at $500 and high end sticks cost $220 (I have around 2 grand in equipment) parents can't afford to get kids into the sport these days.

Once the economy fully recovers and the sport starts growing again the KHL will not be a threat to the NHL.

What does the U.S economy have to do with the KHL. The guy has clearly stated and teams have shown they will spend money to get their Ovies, and kovies to go there and play. As far as i know the NHL plans on keeping the cap, and all it takes is for some of these guys to get greedy

The NHL cap would rise if teams were seeing more revenue allowing them to compete for these veteran players. Also Ovechkin has said many times he will not leave the NHL for any amount of money, his only caveat has been if the NHL will allow players to compete in the Olympics. Kovalchuck could have made 17 million a season tax free had he bolted for the KHL this off season but look where is he playing.

If the cap rises then players would want more of a demand in money, not alone these veteran guys who think they should make X amount. As I stated earlier I doubt the NHL dismisses the Olympic break because it was a great marketing tool for them this past witner.

Ya know, I jumped in here to take a look. I'm not sold on Marcel Hossa but I got the point and I wondered whythere was 12 freaking pages for a thread that started yesterday and wasn't particularly huge numbers worthy. Then I wasted my time flipping through it. This is the kind of stupid crap that has me debating about sticking around and is going to drive people away from this site. It is one thing to disagree and argue, that is honestly what these sites are for. Its another thing to start what has happened in this thread. To quote DeRo "Fucking Clown Shoes!"

Good points, but when someone disagrees with you, you shouldn't start critisizing them being "stupid" or "Special person"
