My girlfriend had two older cats and my dogs were about two years old when we moved in together and it was ugly for a while. Fortunately the cats had their claws and had been around dogs before so eventually they reached "detente" and mostly just stay out of each other's way. They never became friends. The worst was one night I was staying over and brought the dogs as an experiment. She decided the border collie was going to get her cat in the middle of the night so she picked him up and he bit her right through the knuckle. Got an antibiotic shot the next day and somehow never got infected. Good times.

Damn this is a good dog. He learns things so fast.

His name is Rango. Like the movie lizard he is sweet but finds many ways to get into trouble.

Rango and the cat are now pals. He's house trained already. When he needs to go he sits by the door and if you don't see him he will come get you. Will fetch a ball or Frisbee and bring it back. Sits on command and walks well on a leash. Has gained 6 pounds in 9 days. Vet thinks he's going to be a very big Aussie.
