You forgot Michael Jordan or James Worthy...

What.. I'm a Carolina fan... deal with it.

Edit: Oh and found this : Through the entire history of the NBA, a total of 29 titles have been won by 14 former Tar Heels. According to Fox Sports Florida, that is the most by any college—above UCLA (26), Ohio State (25), San Francisco (25), Minnesota (18) and Kentucky (17).

I was going to post that "Dean smith is rolling over in his grave" but then I realized he wasn't dead. So then i was going to post it as a joke, but then I realized it wasn't funny. So i got nothin.

I think the whole Duke thing is joked about because most of their guys turn out to be busts

He just told you he thought he was smarter with better passing ability...
I'll believe it when I see it. Korver was pretty good passer so if Dunleavy really is better that can only mean good things.

They definitely field a lot of good players, no doubt. A program like that SHOULD put more talent in the NBA.

And how many titles? 0 I like the signing and all, but why do they have a hard on for Duke players? As a UNC die hard, this is most disheartening to say the least.

I am also a diehard, but I am usually good about letting the rivalry go once they hit the pros. Though I'm not a big fan of guys like a Dunleavy or Battier they have done well for themselves as pros. I guess I kinda am bummed for a second knowing I'm stuck rooting for some Dukies but hey....as long as they have a "Bulls" logo on their jersey they are a Bulls player. Not a Duke player.

Harrison Barnes
Ed Davis
Vince Carter
Wayne Ellington
Raymond Felton
Danny Green
Tyler Hansbrough
John Henson
Ty Lawson
Kendall Marshall
Antawn Jamison

And how many titles? 0

(I conveniently left out Brendan Haywood.)

So -- what's your point? Don't let collegiate alliances effect your NBA team. I like Dunleavy b/c he shot 42%+ from 3pt last year and looked good in the short playoff run this last season, not solely b/c he's a Dukie.

Well said.

It's pretty fun looking at stats like that. Makes us Heel fans happy. haha

In general for all colleges though. Reading up on the amount of alumni from all the highly successful college basketball programs is great sports trivia info!

I don't think they should actively avoid Duke players. Do you think this is anything but a coincidence? (also, is it fair to say Deng and Brand worked out?)

I'm not saying avoid Duke players, but the Bulls seem to love them and no Duke player is EVER going to LEAD a team to a championship. EVER!

They may be good complimentary pieces, ut not as you main weapons. Most Duke players win titles as role players, not stars of the teams. Look over the last 30 years or so.

You can go back 20 if you want to.And if you count Deng as "working out", I guess. he's been solid and had a great 2007 run, but hasn't been anywhere near that level since then. Boozer is great in spurts. Williams wrecked his body and is out of the league, Brand has never lived up to his hype and ROY status. Duhon, sucks. Grant Hill messed up his ankle and was reduced to a role player for the majority of his career. Corey Maggette? Right, not even worth mentioning. Reddick is a good shooter and player, but he's not leading you to a title any time soon. Battier is a flopper who spams corner three's and was in a good situation. Antonio Lang, who? Gerald Henderson? Role player. Cherokee parks? Bust. Danny Ferry? Great white hype that got lucky in San Antonio.

Now with the new guys Austin Rivers and Kyrie Irving, the trend may be changing, but we will have to wait and see how their careers play out. But I'm not sold on Duke players and we've tried with them for the last decade and have gotten only so far. Time to look elsewhere.

I wonder how low Duke is on that list.

Same here. I root for them as a Bull, but I can't see past the Duke sometimes because it's personal with me. My family on my father's side is from North Carolina. One of my cousins just graduated from UNC-A&T. Had another at Greensboro. My dad went to Duke for three years, before going to Austin Pea and Tennessee. My family is split on the UNC/Duke thing. One of my cousins works for UNC and drives their teams to various games and meetings. His sister is a BIG Duke fan. That's how deep it is.

So the Bulls making me root for players that I spend their college years rooting against, pisses me off, just a little. This knowing the last time a UNC guy was at the helm, we won 6 championships. And the last time a Duke guy was our best player or players, we didn't make the playoffs (Brand, Williams, Duhon) or got in and lost every time (Deng/Boozer).

I'm just over it.

I think Duke players get a lot of unnecessary flak just because they're from Duke. I'm no expert on college ball, but from what I've seen, Duke doesn't really recruit much of the "superstar" talent and gets more guys who fit well in Coach K's system. That's probably why no Duke players other than Kyrie Irving and Grant Hill have been much more than really good role players. That being said, every team needs good role players. Imo it's unfair to say that no Duke player will ever lead a team to a championship though.

Show me one that HAS and then it will be unfair.

Obviously no one as of now otherwise you couldn't make that statement. Arguably Grant Hill could have done it had he not messed up his ankle so bad, but considering the 90s that would've been difficult anyway. I guess Kyrie won't ever get the chance either because his team sucks and he has to go through us and Miami to even have the chance.

He might be the one to break the stigma because he's not the typical Duke player.

Corey Maggete
Elton Brand
Gerald Henderson
Christian Laettner actually was pretty good until about 1998
Boozer
Luol Deng

What do you define as a "role player"?

Duke definitely recruits stars and top talent. Deng was the consensus #2 behind lebron. Singler was top 10 in 2007. Brand was top talent IIRC. Rivers was. Irving was. Sulaimon was. JABARI PARKER. Duke looks more for kids that are well-spoken and actually give enough of a crap about the student part in student athlete to actually go t class even if they are one and done. Duke's academic requirements for athletes are higher than most universities. I think in recent years, the coaching staff has been a little less selective. Either that or we have been doing better attracting talent and brushing off stigma. Most likely the latter

What none of the unc fans want to admit is that the UNC players Roy has put into the NBA are pretty underwhelming. They still ride the coattails of Dean's success(which honestly in the NBA was pretty damn great). The best player for them now is Lawson? That's not bad...but then you have A LOT of pretty meh players below him. Brandan Wright, Sean May,Marvin Williams(he did have a few decent seasons, i understand although considering where he got drafted and among whom he got drtafted..),etc.

There was an article about how ill-prepared Harrison Barnes was for the NBA when he started camp. Hmmmmmm. Seriously though, if I'm a topwing, would I ever want to go to UNC with Roy's PG and post driven system? It's not necessarily an attacking question. But seriously.

Maybe we should look at where the best players in the NBA went to school

Lebron-no college
Kobe-no college
Durant-Texas
Paul-Wake Forest
Duncan-Wake Forest
Harden-Arizona State
Howard-no college
Carmelo-Syracuse
Stephen Curry-Davidson
Westbrook-UCLA
Wade-Marquette
Griffin-Oklahoma
Paul George-Fresno State
Deron Williams-Illinois
Kyrie Irving-Duke

It's far from an exact list(I may have missed a few players)...but do you see the point i'm trying to make? Certain colleges dont necessarily churn out superstars. High quality 2nd-3rd options are successes in the NBA as well. Even role players if they play their role really well. Of course, it helps any college to get one or two players that become 20+ PPG scorers. But the top isn't monopolized. Those players have unique backgrounds.

To be fair, Roy has put out some pretty decent players at his time at UNC. And KU(specifically Paul Pierce). Just like a lot of good teams like Duke have that consistently perform well and recruit top talent.

Do you really think that has to do with what college they went to?
