Sure, when they see the hit coming (Kesler, ahem). But Smith didn't see that coming. No way.

Lol, Kesler looked like he got shot last night.

Someone has to tell the Canucks that the water is frozen!

You would think they would have more head injuries from trying to dive into the deep end, of a frozen pool! Good one.

Anyone who does not think Mike Smith was acting, not saying he did not get hurt but there is not way and time to flop like that if you get hit hard in the head, if it was hard you don't have time to flop like that you just drop like a sack of potatoes. He acted like he was fucken shot. Second to have that many medical staff attend his aid and being down for that long, your telling me that its not an NHL protocol or even the team protocol to evalute him in the locker room? I have seen players get hit by a puck on the leg and get helped to the lockeroom to make sure everything is ok. Is Mike Smith a doctor, does he know more then five medical doctors that were hovering over him, funny thing is he was down on the ice the entire time Shaw was on the ice, even when he was in the box. As soon as he was ejected, and not untill then did he spring up from the healing power of God, took of his face mask squrited some piss on his face and back in action he went, not missing a beat. WOW truely amazing, I wonder if Tim Tebow was in the Building.

I hope that the Hawks see this and carry the momentum to the UC and really shove it to Bettman and the YOts

Sorry, but flopping like Billy Bass is unacceptable if you've been taught not to let the forward know he tagged you.

If it wasn't convulsions, it was an act.

I have never played goal do i hold the opinions of goalies on this board pretty highly.

I still think it was all embelished but i was thinking last night. Back in my lacrosse days wearing full helmet and cat eye mask. I remember taking a shot to the chin before and due to the impact on my helmet it did ring my bell pretty hard and it was one of those moments of a quick black out and ears ringing. Thats why i didnt mind smith resting on the ice for a while. God knows i had to. Its an instant shock moment when you dont know what just happened.

It was that flailing around that i just didnt buy for a second. This is what i ment by not caring about smith laying around on the ice variable. If you have ever had an ear ringer you would know what i mean. But again i have never seen anyone flail around like that when being hit who ever eventually became diagnosed with a legit injury on a play like that unless they were sprayed with acid or attacked by a wasp nest....i know the wasp nest one first hand...dont even think i flailed around like smith did. And that was the worst pain I ever endured

Agreed 100% although goalie masks are much more protective than Lacrosse masks.

Great post though. I've gotten my bell rung before and I sure as hell didn't have the ability to whip off my gloves and mask let alone move. I just have no respect for Smith after seeing that, the way he acted made it seem as if he broke his neck, suffered a bad laceration, poked his eye out, or possibly even broke his jaw -- it didn't look like a "bell rung" type of injury at any point. Karma is a ***** and it bit him in the ass at the end.

I've had pucks hit me in places where I've pinched nerves and gone numb/warm for a few moments, I've gotten my bell rung, elbowed in the head, hit in the collar bone, bruises as big as a baseball. Sometimes I've needed a moment to shake the pain if I take a puck off parts of my forearm/wrist (my chest protector has its holes) or the cup, but never have I whipped my gloves off in that way and kicked my legs. Usually if I experience any sort of pain I get up as quickly as possible and wait for the next whistle to take a skate and put some water on it. If I can't get up for 5 minutes, that means I won't be able to finish the game.

Shit, one time I fractured my wrist from a slap shot, hurt so bad I dropped my stick. Refs blew the whistle as the puck went out of play, I picked up my stick and could barely hold it, finished the game as there were only 10 minutes remaining. I didn't need 5 minutes of flailing and kicking for that -- if anything I don't even think the other team knew what happened as I remained calm about it. I'd prefer they didn't know, if they did they'd probably shoot there for the rest of the night.

no, they are different. They don't have nearly the chin support we have. They are more like what Tretiak wore in the Summit Series but with less cage

I played box lacrosse my mask and helmet back then was chopped up from a goalies hockey mask. I wont lie the helmet and mask i wore was completely illegal and I made the cat eyes myself by chopping out a couple bars along the eyes. hehehehehe. Much more like this one but with more modifications off an older goalie mask. The heavy chin guard was def not there I wish I had a picture of it Ill try and find one. There were a lot of self modified equipment in that league...probably because we were all poor hicks.

The league I played in was a fucking mess. No concern for player safety and it was full of illegal gear. One guy on the Kimberly team used an axe handle as his shaft...completely fucking illegal and it hurt when you got cross checked. Was a fun league but it was wrong.

Stop pretending like you know anything about goalie masks, we all know you only wear a sombrero when tending net... ONLY a sombrero.

I don't think Canuck fans are smart enough to carve a dowel into a axe handle to fit a lacrosse pocket. Too much work and it might give their hands slivers. Can't drive your BMW's here with a sliver in your hand.
