Hi, it’s Midway Caleb.

I believe Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson are the clear cut two best head coach candidates. By far.

But, I can’t decide who would be the better fit for the beloved.

If you feel strongly one way or the other, convince me why the Bears should hire your guy. Who would be your hand picked offensive coordinator for Vrabel and your defensive coordinator for Ben Johnson.

Thanks.

Ben Johnson called 34 passing plays against one of the worst run defenses in the NFL he was absolutely gashing in the run game. Let the bears back in it by only calling 11 runs in the second half.

His hero's are also john scoop and adam gase.

Vrabel would beat Benny's ass. I can't think of a single Bears coach since Ditka that could mess with Vrabel.

They also have a top 3 offense

Vrabel/Daboll and whoever at GM

Trestman vibes from Johnson but I could be wrong.

If you want long term sustained hc/qb success.....the easy answer is Johnson.

You just hope he's the bears version of mcvay/shannahan/koc/stefanski/Taylor//McDaniels(to a degree)

Vs

Trestman/BHVWGHC/daboll/hackett/etc

Where as Vrabel doesn't have the upside and his offense could be bad/average or consistently being turned over with guys moving on to HC gigs

Easy to call plays when you have a pro bowl caliber player at every position of the oline

BJ may be good but people act like he's a giant lock.

Vrabel has actually proven he can be a head coach and leader.
He’s been very good since taking over as OC. There is no denying it.

No one is acting like he is a giant lock. People are acting like he’s a top candidate. Which I’m sure he is. That doesn’t mean he will succeed as a HC.

And you don’t think like people are acting like Vrabel is a giant lock? He’s a proven HC with a 55-45 record. 2-3 postseason record and failed multiple times to find decent OCs. He also is a top candidate.

Both candidates have their pros and cons.

The Bears had an obvious perfect candidate in Harbaugh but blew it, unfortunately the coaches available this offseason all have warts. I am much more confident in Vrabel because of the current state of the Bears, a disaster top to bottom . Cleaning this mess up needs a strong personality, a no nonsense guy. We keep hiring soft dick, nice guys.

Vrabel on top with a good offensive coordinator, which he has had several.

Mike Vrabel's teams were near the bottom of the league in passing yards and attempts all 6 years as head coach of the Titans. Contrary to popular belief, Vrabel's defense ranked in the top 10 in points and yards given up only 2 of his 6 years as HC. Vrabel is Lovie Smith 2.0 and will have a difficult time finding a young, up & coming OC just like Lovie did because of the style of offence he likes to run. If the Bears didn't have the #1 pick in the draft at QB I would be ok with Vrabel as HC. It makes no sense to hire that type of HC when priority #1 should be developing Caleb.

I think there's paths to success with either coach.

With Johnson obviously there is concerns over if he can handle tye duties being a HC and commanding the locker room. I think that can be offset by building a strong coaching staff around him.

I also think he works better with a new gm that is brought in and aligned with him (likely Agnew or potentially someone else from Detroit FO). Not only would this line up their timelines but would also create a cohesive vision and team building concepts.

Vrabel is a safe option to have decent and sustained success. Probably don't need to move off poles as he will become Vrabels b*tch. Just need to be sure there is a sustainable plan at OC.

He found Arthur Smith and Matt LaFleur both of whom got HC gigs.

He hired both Matt LaFluer and Arthur Smith - two up and coming OCs who did good enough to get HC jobs.

I literally don't give a single **** about Caleb's stats, just want to see this team win games;

I think it's okay to admit this isn't a good year for coaching talent, and we're going to hire an incompetent boob who'll get fired in 3-4 years.

If Stefanski or Taylor get cut loose, I’ll take door number three.

Also, what happens if Thomas Brown wins the next four and the team plays well? How about three of the next four? I get that it’s definitely a long shot but I think it’s an interesting talking point.

Between Vrabel and Johnson it’s a coin flip for me. It bothers me that Eberflus seemed to have Johnson’s number.

If Vrabel is so great why did 7 teams pass on him last year? Most of those teams hired defensive HCs, so why not him? He interviewed all over the place. Washington even got left at the altar and didn’t even consider Vrabel. It’s something to think about.

I’m still holding out hope Stefanski gets fired by the stupid Browns. But if I had to choose between these two I’ll take Ben Johnson. High risk but high reward!

Cmon eeyore.

Ben Johnson - 3 straight seasons with a top 5 offense where he is running the show.

Vrabel overachieving with Tannehill and an underwhelming Titans roster.

Not sure what more you can ask for tbh.
