Notes: -

1) I was close to picking Leonard Fournette with the No.1 pick which is why I originally called this draft 'Building a Bully'. However given Pace found Howard who's awesome in the 5th I couldn't quite do it even though he's likely one of the top 5 players in the draft. I also worry if Howard gets injured the Bears who want to build a power running game could be screwed. Here's hoping he doesn't. I still this newly improved roster (in my opinion) is capable of bullying other teams.

In this draft both Garrett and Allen and one of the QBs are off the board. I like Jamal Adams but not at 4 so I went with a young speed rusher who will hopefully 'rule the roost' opposite Floyd in the years to come. I am also worried about Young's age and McPhee's knees. Given the choice if Garrett and Allen are both off the board I'd prefer to trade back given the opportunity.

2) It's Mike Glennon time! I know a lot of people will lose their shit about not picking a QB but I rate Glennon who played reasonably well when given the chance in Tampa without much talent surrounding him and he'll be competing with Barkley to play behind an upgraded OL, Jeffrey on the outside alongside the potential of White, two pass catching TEs in Miller and Leggett and a 'Bell Cow' RB in Howard. That is before the injuries occur of course.

3) I clearly don't expect the Bears to be able to acquire all of the talent above in FA (great if they do) but they will certainly have the money to make it happen if they choose to do so with their current cap space and all the cuts. If they pulled it off our OL is immediately upgraded with Wagner replacing Massie and the defence with the additions in the secondary goes from Top 10 to making a play for Top 5. That works for me as I believe Glennon or Barkley can make the offence work well enough alongside Howard and a great defence.

4) I am a massive Ryan Pace fan. He has shown a keen eye for acquiring for talent. Call me impressed. I hope he is with the Bears for a long time as despite the current W/L record I believe he's building a juggernaut that will represent well the Bears of old.

5) The coaching team leaves me up and down daily. I am ok with giving them another shot due to the ridiculous amount of injuries the Bears have had to contend with this season. I know others don't agree. Fair enough but I don't want the Bears becoming the Browns. I absolutely don't want to lose Fangio. He's a rock star. I'd make him HC if it was between Fox and Fangio staying. Other alternatives I've considered that I'd be cool with. HC Kyle Shanahan and DC Fangio. If it was a complete clear out my preference would be HC Kyle Shanahan and DC Todd Bowles (I am hoping he's fired from the Jets in this instance). I could live with a HC Cooter DC Fangio combo.

6) I believe the roster created above (short of suffering another massive amount of injuries next season) is more than capable of winning the NFC North and having a decent crack in the play offs.
Nice job!

Definitely say goodbye to Cutler.

I like Glennon. Definitely like 6'6" QBs. He'd be in my QB universe for 2017 on. However, generally speaking, I don't currently rank him over Barkley, Hoyer and Shaw. I'd bring him in to compete for starting. I think 6 mil is very reasonable. I don't know about the 2017 QB class yet, but I'd lean drafting high. Would I go Glennon over Hoyer? Yes.

I'd cut McPhee (& Houston). His guaranteed $ is paid. I don't think he can play enough games for 7.3m/yr.

I'd re-sign Larsen for sure. He payed well. Plus sign Kush, Washington, Thompson.

I don't know enough about RT Wagner. I'm fine with Massie at $6m/yr. I think he's done well enough. I like where the OL is right now -- although we do need more OT depth/prospects. However, love to improve on Massie at the right price.

Yep, cut Royal, he now is a real injury liability.

Eric Berry is really good, but I'm not willing to pay a 28yr-old 10M/yr to play FS (which is what Chiefs paid him for 1yr 2016). I want to find/develop a young player. Bears haven't even played Houston-Carson there yet (maybe they have a good reason). Berry's coming off a good year with a rising team that was obviously willing to pay him that much... so I don't see Bears and Berry coming together. I don't think our current Safeties are mega-liabilities, plus they're young and inexpensive. I'd rather inch-up with a young prospect than pay a ton for an older vet. But I don't mind signing a great vet at a low price.

We need better depth at CB. Adding Gilmore to Porter, Fuller, Hall, Langley, Callahan, LeBlanc (7) seems like overkill. If we can afford him, I like it, but wouldn't Gilmore be more of a replacement to Porter?

I'd hire Harbaugh for HC, but most say he's not done with Michigan yet. I'm also OK keeping the entire coaching staff. I like the direction, and the injuries were extreme. There may be better HCs or OCs out there, but if we keep Fangio at DC, and there's stability with Fox/Loggians, I know we could do worse. I would hire McDaniels at OC, but most say he wouldn't do that.

Bennett may end up being a better over all player than Garrett as he is dominant in the run game as well. He's probably a better value closer to 10 but I'd be stoked if we got Garrett, Allen, or Bennett.

Are we building the bully or are opposing teams the bully because we have Glennon as our starter?

If we want to sign Jeffery long term we need to wow him with some QB's.

I love that everyone is on the Mike Glennon train now, where is Ryan Mallet these days? Skid Row with Manziel?

Trade for Jimmy G, or Osweiler. Re-sign Barkley and if we let Hoyer walk I am fine with it since he didn't have the balls or arm speed to just throw it up to Jeffery. We need Jeffery or we aren't serious about winning.

Let me mock your mock. It sucks!

No really I like your second round pick, but we have a legit shot at Kizer. With the right new offensive mind, he has the tools to help us compete for the playoffs. We will have reason to be optimistic for the first time since Martz was our OC

I actually like the mock. I've been thinking recently about a draft where the Bears don't have Garrett, Allen or they don't love any of the QBs at 4. I keep coming back to Derek Barnett as the top "other" option, and honestly, I don't think there's much else I'd really want other than the 3 defensive players or a QB. Barnett has a lot of similarities to McPhee, including carrying a little extra midsection weight last year. But he's a very good compliment to Floyd (short, strong at POA to Floyd's length and speed). He'd give the Bears a very strong 4 man rotation off the edge. I really don't want a safety, OT, or CB at 4 and there are no TEs worthy of a pick that high. Those 4 and QB are the biggest needs to me. Edge rusher isn't a need, but Barnett may very well be the BPA when it comes to fit and value at #4.

The 2nd and 3rd round picks are very good picks, as I think Ramczyk is the #2 OT and very NFL ready ala Whitehair. And I think Leggett is a very good all-around TE. I don't know much about the DBs in the 4th, but I'll look into those guys. I really like Tomlinson in the 5th. Mostly a run stopper, but I really like the idea of bringing in a strong run stopping NT that can move Goldman to the 5-technique in the base defense. Should really be able to do damage against the run.

With this year QB class I would love to see us have Barkley, Shaw, and Glennon on the roster. That's three QB's that we can evaluate. If no one steps up and earns the right to be a long term starter we draft a QB in 2018 draft.

I don't understand where the bully part comes in?

The 4th pick is on the bench, the DL doesn't get addressed at all.

The OL will need to bully people if Glennon starts. We should just continue to start Barkley and save the 6 million.

yeah i dont know what to think about fatty no knees... is he done??.. pretty expensive for a olb with zero explosion left... maybe the offseason will do wonders... he needs some of that deer antler spray/cream... i really dont advocate changing players position often... but fatten him up, it wont be hard to do and let him play de fulltime... sign another fa olb with all that cash..

I stopped reading when I read Glennon. Enough of this Glennon crap on this db. When is the last time he threw a pass in a game? He is no better than Hoyer or Barkley

Glennon and Deonte Thompson have zero reason to be Bears after this year.

Shaw/Barkley/Hoyer are all > Glennon... besides not drafting a QB ANYWHERE which is fucking asinine, and picking up noodle arm in FA i love the draft and offseason. Barnett will have instant success in the pros as a 3 down player. He's a fucking beast.

Pace has spent two years missing out on QBs that he wanted in the 1st round (Mariota and Wentz). I don't think he passes up another one this year and opts to FA. I am more willing to bet we move up and grab someone than any other option we have if needed.

I appreciate the effort to put that together, and there are some good ideas in there, but I think trying to corner the market on backup QB's is a bad idea.

I understand where you're coming from but I think Glennon is more than just a back up QB and I don't think there is anything better coming out in the 2017 draft. I do like Mahomes II but in the end preferred the idea of getting an OT in the 2nd who would be able to compete with Leno Jr. and probably supplant him. Leno Jr. will also need a new contract soon and whilst I like him a lot at the price he's being paid right now I don't like him at several million a year.

The 4th pick is part of a rotation of guys you can never have enough of. McPhee can't exactly be counted on for a full season. Lamar Houston is likely on the outs.

both gilmore and berry will be sought after and its highly unlikely either player is dying to be a bear, expect them to get overpaid if you want them to be bears.
i'm surprised you didnt address the DE spot, unrein is a waste, bullard hit the rookie wall the whole season and guys like washington and ego are backup players at best.

You're right they will be and it's quite possible they won't want to come to the Bears but at least we have the money to compete for them.

As far as addressing the DE spot I simply couldn't find room for him in the draft and I didn't think there was that much out there in FA and not at the expense of one of the other players I've chosen for FA. Clearly Bullard is having some growing pains and let's hope he gets past them. I like Washington. He's not a Rock Star but now he's actually on the turf instead of in rehab he's decent enough.

The Barnett pick in the first round and Tomlinson in the 5th allows the Bears more flexibility along the DL in allowing McPhee (sometimes) and Goldman to move to the DE positions in passing downs or having McPhee, Goldman and Hicks in the front 3 with Barnett and Floyd on the outside.

Couldn't find the space for a DE is what I mean't to say at the expense of one of the other picks. The Bears still have quite a few holes and another pick on the DL seemed detrimental when we spent quite a lot on that area already if you include the OLBs as well.
