Anyone else looking forward to the Transformers release?

After having seen some of the filming downtown it really made me want to see how they show the destruction of downtown Chicago.

Too bad they did not film it in Vancouver and literally destroyed it, eh?

I gotta say after the first one I thought the second one was too long and filled with no story and needless explosions, I want to see the third but I fear it just continues the trend.

I had some friends that worked on it.

I support their participation, but overall Michael Bay films are terrible.

Nope... and honestly I'm getting tired of all these super hero movies.... I mean some are good. But they can just stop now. stop scrapping around for scrips and pulling out every super hero you can to make a movie. I bet we'll see a ::insert obscure super hero name here:: movie soon.

It is bad when so many of them come out that I mistake movies that arent based on superheros as being such.

Who would have thought that a desperate attempt by marvel to bail themselves out of bankruptcy would have generated such an unstoppable movie genre dynamo.

When the superman came out in the 70's or batman in the early 90's it didnt spawn a domino effect like X-men did.

It will wane and fall off for awhile eventually, just like Martial arts flicks have their ebs and flows.

Spawned a ton of them after enter the dragon came out, then a lull, then came back with a vengeance in the late 80's early 90's then fell off, then back again after jet Li appeared in Lethal weapon 4 which again spawned a ton of martial arts yarns for about 5 years, now theyve dropped off again. Speaking of that, Im pretty Sure Jet Li and jackie chan fled back to hong kong or appear in only supporting roles in american films.

Or how about WW2 movies after Saving Private Ryan, it practically became a movie genre in itself....enemy at the gates, thein red line(which to me was the biggest borefest of a war movie ive seen in my life, Ive watched it multiple times to see if I was capable of changing my opinion, im not), band of brothers mini series and im sure there were more.

Movie companies simply try to strike while the Iron is hot on a particular subject matter, sometimes the iron remains hot longer than others.

It's exactly what TSD says below...

As a comic book nerd, my problem isn't the volume of movies... for years this is the kind of thing we wanted, a chance to see our favorite superheroes on the big screen. The bigger issue is the quality.

Hell, I'm a huge GL fan and I should be waaaay more excited than I am about the movie opening this weekend. The problem is that I can't build my hopes up too high, lest it be a giant pile of shit... I'm just trying to keep my disappointment in check. A lot of people don't know that the original concept from Hollywood for a Green Lantern movie was to have Jack Black as the GL and make it more like a movie based on the concept of the Mask (with Jim Carrey). Fans found out and shot that down pretty quickly - I thought it was a moronic idea and I actually like Jack Black.

For every Dark Knight we get... we get a Ghost Rider, X-Men 3,and Elektra - the problem being that they created "new" stories for character and teams that already had decades of solid material and strong stories. (Elektra was the biggest example of this).

Amen to that. Him and John Woo should start dating.

WTF? That's a TOTAL insult to John Woo! Bay sucks. Woo's Hollywood films with perhaps the exception of Face/Off and at least the actions sequences of MI: II are regrettably unremarkable and weak but he will utterly and always own my fangirl ass for his Hong Kong films. . .ALWAYS. For just the trifecta of Hard Boiled, The Killer, and A Better Tomorrow alone he will always have my undying love and affection (which is not easily won). I also loved the more recent Red Cliff epic too! The man has some pretty fucking FANTASTIC stuff in his filmography IMO.

Brothers - Mediocre. About a "war hero" who's taken prisoner in Afghanistan but the army thinks he's dead. His wife lives on and becomes close to his brother who helps her raise the kids. It ends up that he was prisoner the whole time and had to go through some fucked up shit and comes back pretty mentally effed.

The movie seemed kind of choppy. Didn't feel like they developed the characters very well and I was never emotionally vested in them. Seemed like they cut some scenes to shorten the movie and lost something along the way. Could have been an excellent movie but fell short in my eyes. I gave it 3/5 on Netflix.

Well, the joke was more about his more "Hollywood" fare... and a subtle reference a Simpsons bit.

Check yourself trick.

Understand this about me---I am not a NERD when it comes to anything. My shoe collection makes it entirely impossible for me to be a nerd! Sorry. I am however willing to cop to being a "geek" about some things, i.e., books, shoes, ice cream. That badge I wear proudly. I am no anime aficionado or junkie---I just know what I like and have built my collection of cartoons/animation based on that over the years. This is not news as I have stated on these forums before that I loves me---SOME---anime and cartoons before.

Self denial. Geek is just a slightly nicer way of saying nerd.

Gotta agree with phranchk (btw - long time no see, Sir!) here, Bookie...

Anime was one area I never really got into. I enjoyed Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star - but that was pretty much where it ended.

And I'm pretty sure you can still be a shoe Nerd.

No, no, no, no, no, no people! To my way of thinking being a geek about something just means you really, really love it and are interested in it in all ways. It's like *extreme love*. . .but ultimately harmless and doesn't necessarily define you wholly, only in part. You just jones on something. Nerdism has larger implications in my book---like being awkward, perhaps being out of touch, maybe even oblivious to many other things. It isn't necessarily tethered to the love of a *thing*. Like, one can be a geek about something and still be cool whereas I never think of a nerd as being cool.
<
Two totally different ways of being from my perspective. You wanna call that denial then so be it suckahs! {{{sticks tongue out and fingers in ears and thinks, "Na-na-na-na-na. I can't hear you."}}}

Ymono, one can so not have a badass shoe collection and be called a shoe nerd---shoe geek, shoe jones? Yes. But nerd? Just. No.
<

But back on topic. Ahhh. . .Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star (the film). . .good times. Own them both but haven't looked at either in ages and ages. Mine are so old they are just standard dvd formats---I never double or triple-dipped on them and upgraded.

Also, how is the second nursery coming along? You never updated us about how the Hawks mural for *phranchkette #2* was coming along. Also, when is that baby due to land?

If I didn't gang up on you then you'd know I wasn't a good cyber friend. Besides, who ever said I wasn't an asshole?

It's coming along. Probably not going to be finished until after the baby's born because my friend got pretty busy with his secondary job of sand sculpting.

Now back to the topic of films as it were. Impressive Amazon---4 consecutive Gold Box deals today have been from the "Movies & TV" category but **** all, I missed #3 which was the Blu-ray of Goemon. Shit. . .such a steal of a deal too!
