No, no, no, no, no, no people! To my way of thinking being a geek about something just means you really, really love it and are interested in it in all ways. It's like *extreme love*. . .but ultimately harmless and doesn't necessarily define you wholly, only in part. You just jones on something. Nerdism has larger implications in my book---like being awkward, perhaps being out of touch, maybe even oblivious to many other things. It isn't necessarily tethered to the love of a *thing*. Like, one can be a geek about something and still be cool whereas I never think of a nerd as being cool.
<
Two totally different ways of being from my perspective. You wanna call that denial then so be it suckahs! {{{sticks tongue out and fingers in ears and thinks, "Na-na-na-na-na. I can't hear you."}}}

Ymono, one can so not have a badass shoe collection and be called a shoe nerd---shoe geek, shoe jones? Yes. But nerd? Just. No.
<

But back on topic. Ahhh. . .Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star (the film). . .good times. Own them both but haven't looked at either in ages and ages. Mine are so old they are just standard dvd formats---I never double or triple-dipped on them and upgraded.

Theres like a bunch of Vampire Hunter D Novels, although I dont think any are translated to english. I have a collection of anime but seriously I think its been 10 years since Ive watched any of them.

Saw the documentary "Burzynski: Cancer is Serious Business" over the weekend. And I really don't like pounding on the same drum all the time, but when it's the same root problem that rears it's head in so many different aspects of society, that's what happens and hopefully others start picking up on it. Once again: Profit over people. I remember hearing about and seeing bits and pieces of Burzynski's trials and indictments in the 90s and the whole hoopla with some of his (dubbed) "miracle" cured cancer patients on daytime talk shows. This movie tells the story of what happened and what he's been up against during those times and is more or less ongoing to this day.

There's too much to go into for a simple synopsis, and they really do go extensively into the details during the movie almost to the point where it kinda gets convoluted at times, but it's needed in order to fully address and describe the disgusting and horrifying behavior and decisions that are made by government agencies that supposedly have our best interests at stake.

It's tough to find a person where cancer hasn't affected their life in either suffering directly or seeing a friend or family member suffer from it and the effects of combating it with arguably equally destructive measures in radiation and chemotherapy treatments. This is not truly a movie about a miracle cure, but I believe a film that everyone who has seen the effects of cancer in their life should watch and pass along to others, especially to ones who have not had to deal with cancer.

Finally saw Requiem for a Dream after reading the book several months ago. Really good movie, but as usual the book was better. Still, they did a really good job of portraying the novel in film.

You sly devil. . .craftily trying to switch the topic to books on me? The manga and novels are in English. The novels are published by Darkhorse and have some gorgeous cover artwork but that's the extent of my knowledge about them. I only ever rocked VHD as anime.

Went to "Mr. Popper's Penguins" with my daughter. About what I expected. My daughter enjoyed it, but I'd wait for it on cable/Netflix. Carey is getting type cast with these roles; busy professional that neglects his family and has an epihpany, becoming Dad of the century. This was basically Liar Liar with penguins and less funny.

Book's better, though I did like the Jeennifer Connelly girl-girl/two-headed dildo scene.

Just soemthing abbout two girls and two-headed dildo that make me feel all warm and happy inside.

But ViciousJ I call everyone who gives me grief on IHN, "Asshole" damnit! And though you may not recall, I am certain I have called you one too in the past. See, you are not so special.

Also? Please refrain from the faux indigination when you know very well you were complicit along with Mass in perving up the Books thread at the time I was soliciting "help" from phranchk. Don't be Jean-Luc Picard-ing me mister!

But in my defense, most of the time I use the term with a modicrum of affection and only rarely with venom (like when I am addressing Mass
<
) not to mention I get called asshole back in kind and take it on the chin like I deliver it. I like to think of it as a little forum pas de deux of pedestrian and base vulgarity.

But I enjoy being pretend mad at people!!! - it makes it that much more humorous when other posters have to waste time defending themselves when I know that they actually meant no real abasement.

Ain't I a stinker?

as to stay true to the thread - as I spent some time with basic cable due to the hotel room I was stationed in this weekend, I got to watch Kingpin, Transporter 2 and Fool's Gold all at the same time. While I have previously seen all three, I can really only really suggest the first 2.

The Eagle sucked ****.

They lost me when whats his face ordered the Testudo formation in melee combat. It made me cringe. I mean come on, if you wanted to show off the testudo formation, at least put them in a situation real roman soldiers would have used it.

Finally got around to seeing Inception the other day. It wasn't bad... definitely an interesting concept. Even having known the ending going in, it was still intriguing enough to keep my attention. I thought everyone in that movie was spot-on... except for DeCaprio. I feel there are better actors who could've "owned" that role and brought a little more believable gravitas...

Interesting anecdote - the plot of the movie closely mirrors a Uncle Scrooge comic story from 2002.
