I think I might need to have a cheesy 80's kid/teen movie night at my house sometime soon. I'm sure all the movies will be much worse or cornier than I remember, but I think they'll all be worth watching again to see what I loved about them as a kid.

Those are closer to adult movies or at least older teenage movies. Especially War Games. I've seen Ferris a million times. Wouldn't include that in a marathon.

Finally watched Goon. It was a decent "hockey" movie, and I was entertained.

I could break it down critically, but I really don't want to. I laughed out loud on some parts, and some of the movie was really cheesy-- but worth the watch.

Hockey fan in me: 6/10

The critic in me: 5/10

I finally saw this as well, I was surprised that my local library sprang for it so it was a free loaner. That being said I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about Goon. I wouldn't recommend it to any one, not even other hockey fans.

Interesting that no one really enjoyed Goon. I thought it was extremely funny, raunchy, full of profanity but for it's genre well written and did a great job of using of humorous violence and slapstick. Compared to a lot of other comedies that have come out in recent years I found it to be a lot sharper and more clever than something like The Hangover (lame), which was just a bunch of useless scenarios with no real stakes or plot thread, but essentially is supposed to appeal to the same audience. I mean, it uses the same tropes as most movies of the genre, but it didn't feel stale to me. Anyway, I'm not winning anyone over here, I just thought it was interesting.

I think most people in this thread enjoyed to some extent with a couple of exceptions. Look back over the last 5 pages (or maybe more) there were plenty of good reviews of it. I thought it was funny. Cheesy and terrible in a few parts, but overall worth the watch.

i finally watched shut up little man. pretty fun doc. but not sure if they needed to run over the same points over and over again like they did. it jumped around a lot also but the mystery of the subject matter and the morality of it was good enough to keep my attention.

also finally watched the Tim and Eric movie. not good. i usually like their awkwardness but it can't hold a feature film. could have done better with the idea of the mall also. not worth the time. even all the camels were wasted.

Re-watched "Something Wicked This Way Comes" - such a great movie... Ray Bradbury story that pretty faithfully adapts to the movie.

great film. I revisit it every few years.

Watched some older films on Netflix

Eat My Dust - I see alot of parallel in Tarantino's Grindhouse in this film, just more fun and campy instead of dark and edgy.

Finally got around to Amazing Spider-man this weekend... in my opinion, far superior to the Toby MacGuire(sp?) versions - I feel like they actually nailed down Peter Parker somewhat accurately and the casting of Sally Field as Aunt May was particularly inspired. Really enjoyed it and it will definitely be a purchase for me.

[sub]Watched Kubrick's THE KILLING(1957) for the umpteenth time. The film is about a heist at a racetrack, presented in a non-linear fashion. Based on the hardboiled noir novel, Clean slate, by Lionel White, the screenplay includes dialogue by Jim Thompson. The film is a big influnece on Tarantino's RESERVOIR DOGS.[/sub]

Saw Ted because basically we wanted to see a bunch of the 6 dollar movies so we just walked over and went to which ever was next that we wanted to see. I thought it was good. Not a must see but definitely funny and worth the 6 bucks in a theater. I'd say go see it if you like that kind of comedy.

Hoping to go to this before it leaves the theaters.

The GF and I were going to pull a double-feature with the Dark Knight Rises... but we realized this would be like 6 hours of our Saturday eaten up so we opted for the older one (TASM) and will probably hit Batman up later.

TASM is 6$ right now at our theatre probably for this last week so hopefully we'll go sunday. I think it's like $9 bucks for the real 3D, would you said it's a good one for 3D? I don't mean was there a lot of 3D moments that popped on the screen because they are all gimmicks much like the vid you posted earlier (i think it was you) but does the 3D actually add something to the experience and the movie other than oohh that was cute. Generally I'm not a fan of 3D because it gets annoying, it never quite looks right to me and I feel like I spend half the movie trying to get the glasses right just so they can have the charecters throw a ball at me every 3 minutes. But like in IMAX where the movies are made for 3D and it's part of the immersive story line, that is worth it to me.

Didn't see the 3D, but I'd say other than a couple fight scenes, there's really no reason for it... I just though story-wise, it was better than the Tobey Macguire version and Andrew Garfield did a fantastic job as Spidey. The fighting style of Spider-man was more what I thought it should be based on the comics - very quick and improvised, almost like his abilities are doing the fighting on instinct. The technical genius of Peter Parker comes through as well, which I really appreciated.

Maybe the public wasn't keen on it, but as a fan of the comics - I loved what they did with this movie. And Denis Leary was a surprisingly capable Captain Stacy.
