Seems like it's (Evil Dead remake) following the same story line, just better production values and CGI effects instead of claymation

All I know is that the last 5 seconds of that trailer made me literally turn my head.

yah i didnt like the tongue either lol. Made me clench my jaw. I gotta say I like hearing the f word in a trailer....never get to see that enough.

Movie still looks over the top a bit. So you never know...could be so chaotic it comes off as funny and satirical again. Probably won't be filled with classic oneliners though....the way only Ash can deliver.

I think that's what a good horror movie is supposed to do. Make you feel uncomfortable and somewhat frightened. Most horror movies have become boring because they follow the same formula, they're not scary and don't push any boundaries. I know there are ways to do this psychologically without the gore, but I think this will appeal to the hardcore horror fans.

Yup I agree.

I was desensitized from horror films when i was 8 and my crazy baby sitter had me watching the Exorcist. Didn't scare me but there were certain moments in the film which have stuck with me. Music also plays a good part in adding that aura i need in a horror film. Nothing was more creepy than the Mike Oldfield tubular bells song at the end of the exorcist. Still creepy. Best horror film music ever in my opinion...until the cheesy guitar effects.

Although somewhat desensitized a few things that always get me in horror films. Bodies lit on fire...I see this happens in the new Evil Dead. I don't like when weird bugs come out of peoples mouths (or puppets mouths for that matter..leaches add to the horror). Capitation and self mutilation of unusual body parts...like that tongue!!!! Or teeth!!! Brutality and decapitation of animals always gets me also...not so much chopping up of human limbs though..which is odd. Oh and knee cap crushing...i hate knee cap crushing!! My knee caps hurt thinking about it.

Also in horror films I have never been turned on by a single antagonist character like the Freddies, Jasons, Leatherface etc etc etc. I like the idea of films like Evil Dead where it's a realm of faceless evil. Or possessions. But of course it has to be done right as you said and not cliche. Poltergeist had a good formula and some moments which have stuck with me and made me afraid of the dark for a while when I was younger. And of course it comes down to good acting. You have to get good actors to do horror films and I think that's a tough part for any film maker who really wants to hit a homerun. Don't see a lot of great actors lining up to do horror films...which is too bad. But the flip side is you do get new faces in the genre...which can be rewarding for the viewer.

Not a horror movie, but since you're adding things that make you cringe, the curbing scene in American History X. Every time I watch I almost turn away even though the camera turns away for you.

But those were part of the charm for the Evil Dead movies, at least they were to me. That it really was just a bunch of people on a shoe string budget making these movies. It's not that I'm totally against CGI, but there is something to practical effects (and I've always loved stop motion or claymation) that makes me appreciate it more.

Yup I like stop motion and claymation effects also. When done right it can be some of the creepiest shit in the world. Look at music videos like Tools "Sober" for a quick example. Creepy and interesting. When it's done poorly it's a good kitschy effect that can't be beat also. I like CGI also but to be honest sometimes it's just too clean for my taste. I prefer unusual movements if I want to be drawn into something that is supposed to be "out of the realm of the norm".

CGI definitely has it's uses, where it can do things that no practical effects in the world could ever manage to do. And in those examples, when done well, it looks amazing. But to me, especially in horror movies or monster movies, the more practical you can be, the better it looks. It's just that it's usually more work.

Disney is buying Lucas Films and will be releasing a Star Wars Episode Seven in 2015. Hard to speculate on the quality at this point because Disney has put out some great films and they can't really make them any more pg than George Lucas did to Episodes I and II.

I think you answered your own comment there.

Not really worried about it being too PG. I mean, Star Wars isn't really what I think of as "dark and gritty" anyways and that it could run the risk of being "watered down". It's an adventure. I think just having it not be under the complete control of Lucas anymore is what would make me most excited as a Star Wars fan.

I thought I would never have to think about Star Wars again. Ugh. This is the worst news of all time. The franchise was dead and it deserved to be dead, it had a long, tedious life and now those Disney jerks have resurrected it. I try to save my anger for important things, but now it's all going back into Star Wars.

Lucas will be a creative consultant...but that 4 billion made this the best exit for him and what he did with Lucas films.

Will be interesting to see if EP7 will be based on the Zahn series or something else. Since the CEO said they are looking to release a SW movie every couple of years i think it will be something different. Even more interesting that they are considering a TV series.

This also gives Disney the Indiana Jones franchise.

I disagree, IT has run it's course as is, but it absolutely deserves to finally have the followup that the first three films deserve I'm not sure this will be it. But it deserves to have something that gives proper due to the culture changing greatness that the first three were before they started redoing them and making horrible sequels. The closest thing that came to reliving some star wars greatness is actually a video game.

I honestly think Disney will do it justice. I think I'm in the minority. Time will tell.
