Maybe it is just the Surface Navy in me but I just don't see them being able to outfit the ships specially for females, It isn't they can't do the job, Subs don't have spare room to accomodate just them (from what I know). Surface ships have alot of issues with creating specialized living spaces and all that jazz. It would be dang near impossible to do on a sub.

Nothing is impossible. Besides an activity like this would cost the DoD money, but would go to a willing shipbuilder to retrofit them. Sounds like a good way to spend gubmint cheese (putting it back into society) and another problem solved in the interest of advancing civil rights and equality among the two sexes.

I like my idea better of just having an all female crew.

Hopefully they arent in charge of an SSBN and launch on Russia.

I actually heard that in the US now, the procedure is that if they don't have clear authority from the president, a SSBN cannot launch its missiles (it wasn't always like that). I think Great britian is the only nation in which the sub can launch it's missiles without a confirmed direct order from the leader of the nation.

What does SSBN stand for?

The SS denotes a "submersible ship", the B denotes "ballistic missile," and the N denotes "nuclear powered."

Is your google broken again, bri?

Guess which finger I'm holding up, Pete. Nobody forced you to answer it since it was such an inconvenience. I will never figure out why people are so intolerable of people who ask questions and are trying to learn things, especially someone like you who thinks he's an authority on everything. I am not ashamed to admit I don't know something. In fact in the big scheme of the world I probably know very little. I'm what you would consider a Britard.

Wow, testy.

I am not a know it all. There have been dozens of instances on these very message boards where I admitted I did not know something. In this case I did NOT know what the acronym SSBN meant, so I googled it and found out.

Point is, you could have found out for yourself. Don't be mad at me for doing something for you. Talk about kicking a gift horse in the teeth...

She is trying to keep the conversation on here lively. We could all be on google, but what would the point of here be then? Be careful you may get kicked somewhere other than the teeth.

Funny, when I think about you and horse in the same sentence teeth never enter the picture.

Hahaha good one. When I think of bri I think of a 40 year old man sitting in his mom's basement blogging while pretending to be a cute, simple, early 20s girl from the country.

It has been interesting watching your personality evolve over the past 4 or 5 years.

Ok I give. Why do you have to flame people all the time. People like you just are sucking the fun out of this place. You can't make a fucking mistake on here without getting flamed.

Slow down there pal. I tried to help her out and she turns around and insults me not once but twice.

What fun am I ruining?

I'd give Pete a little slack. You know the internet rules: Unless you have photographic evidence, everyone on the internet is a 50-year old man in a chili-stained wifebeater with a bucket of KFC in one hand and his penis in the other.

Nothing against you bri, it's just the rules of the internet
<
.

But, in a more humorous turn, for women servbing on a sub, watch "Down Periscope"

Just in case you are wondering, none of those minuses came from me cause I don't believe in handing them out. Sth is a very nice person so direct your anger at me. He is not deserving of it. I apologize for hurting your feelings with my comments and I am sincere because I know no matter how someone else behaves it is no excuse for bad behavior on my part. I feel great shame and remorse and will ruminate on that as I drag my 40 something carcass out of the basement and leave for work. Guess your day just got a little better and everyone else's too.

To me it is not an smart use of our funding right now. They have enough issues with females on surface ships and we have been outfitted. We also have gotten all the sensitivity training too. I do not think it is worth the money, just to make things "equal" right now. We can worry about this down the line when they design new subs. Leave the old girls be.

The cost benefit comes in when you now get a whole new pool of people willing to volunteer for submariner service. It is still a 'by choice' assignment, right? If so, you would now have the whole pool of female sailors that could potentially fill those ranks.

What kind of issues do 'they' have with females on surface ships?
