I'm so tired of the recent history of the west being dominant propping it up. You're absolutely right here. I think the east is for sure the better harder conference this year. People just look at Miami and scoff YES SCOFF at the fact that they are the best east but would be 4th in the west. But like you said they are so top heavy. The west falls off a cliff after 2 even. After GS the 3rd place team is 7 back. Do you know what 7 back in the east gets? 8th place nets. West out there wracking up wins vs. SE. NBA has always been cyclical and it's the East's time.
The East stopped being weak in the 2018-19 season when LeBron went west, Embiid and Greek took next steps and Kawhi was on Toronto. Obviously Kawhi left the next season, but in 2020-21 we saw Durant join Brooklyn. The rest has numerous teams with one superstar and weaker supporting cast (some of it due to injuries).

I'd still favor the Warriors winning the title over any east team though.

Yeah, I agree, but I still feel like that narrative is still out there. Like the East is cute, but they still aren't as good as the West because the west has a couple of really dominant teams. But like you said, the east has won 2 of the last 3 championships. No one in in the East has to win the West. They just have to beat 1 team, in one series. Maybe I'm not paying as close enough attention and the bias has gone down recently. I mostly stick to the Bulls because media coverage of sports in general is complete shit these days. I'm not entertained by dudes sitting in a room yelling their opinions at each other as fact. And, while I've always been a fan this year I've put a little extra air in the tires of my wagon.

Going back to Jordan, the West is 15-8 in the Finals, with their best streak was at 5 from 99-03. So the East has poked and prodded at the West, often coming out on top, but generally those teams were top heavy in the conference think Cleveland, Miami, Boston).

I am in no way trying to discount that the west has been the better conference. But I think the narrative, as of 2019 as you pointed out has changed. And I just don't know that it's being said out loud because typically people just look at records. Vegas has it almost even at this point with east and west teams both about equal through the top 6. Not sure what to make of that but you typically don't bet against Vegas. If I had to do a prop bet, I think I would put money on an east team winning again.

Also, I'm not really arguing anything here. Just making conversation during some boring times.

Well if you ask me, the Warriors are still the favorite to win, but facing Greek & the Bucks is no easy task in winning. Series could go either way, but I'd give the Warriors an advantage. Remain to be seen on how Sixers/Nets end up looking.

Suns can replicate what they did last year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lose to the team with a Superstar again. No one else in the West is even threatening at this point.

I, 100% guarantee you (unless the Suns/Warriors all die of injuries or worse) they are not going to win the Western Conference this year.
To say they aren’t threatening is incorrect IMO. Are they the favorites in the west? No. But that doesn’t make them not a contender still

I'm not going to argue semantics on this. To me they have no real shot of leaving the second round. But you watch the team more than I do, so I have no "eye test" to go off of.

Not semantics. Your own words were “no one in the west is even threatening right now.” And I disagree that they aren’t a threat. You can still claim they aren’t a threat, but it isn’t a matter of semantics

To me GSW is still the team too, but for whatever reason they still are pushing the Nets. I get that they may be just stoking the easy money. Since lines are about getting people to bet not necessarily about being right. I think/hope the Sixers and Nets gamble implodes on both of them. I guess we'll see. I'm actually surprised that Phoenix is as good as they are again this year, I felt like it was as much about getting really good/hot at the right time, but again they weren't bad last year, and I don't have the general NBA knowledge so I'm just going from my perception which isn't based on much.

The NBA is all about superstars. Phoenix doesn't have any. They have a former superstar who simply got old (Chris Paul), losing his superstar ability, but he's certainly still a regular star. Devin Booker is an inefficient pure scorer, who will never be a superstar. The rest of the team is built on solid players.

They could still win (as the reality is anyone still can), but I'd wager GSW over them in a series.

Those two need an additional leap before I'm going to crown them.

Memphis is Ja Morant and a bunch of really good role players at the moment.

yeah, this Memphis team is very similar to the Bulls team with MVP Rose.

Rose had solid pieces around him, but none of them were that second star that could consistently take pressure off him.

That's where I think the Grizzlies are. One star and solid role players... but come playoff time, he alone won't be enough to take them all the way.

I have, but probably not nearly as many as you have.

I think they're a good team. Maybe even a great team. I mean, if I compared them to a team that made the ECF, obviously I think they're good.

But like that Bulls team, I don't think this Memphis team has enough star power to get to/win the finals this year. I mean, do you honestly think they will?

I agree with Scoot. I think Memphis' supporting players need to prove themselves more before they get crowned. I think Bane has a ton of potential. Jackson.. idk. I don't really see star potential in him. So many bigs in the NBA do what he does today, and only a few of them really amount to anything. At this point in his career, I feel like his ceiling is Porzingis. Which, I guess would be good enough if Bane continues to develop. Having a Porzingis-like player as your 3rd option isn't bad if you have two other stars.

I guess time will tell.

I forgot he existed.

What a wasted career/talent.

I remember hearing after his rookie year that he was one of 4 rookies to ever average 20/5/5... The other 3: MJ, LBJ, Oscar Robertson. Luka has since joined that list.

I think where you’re off is your assessment of Jackson. He’s playing at a defensive player of the year type level this season, and chipping in his 16 ppg as the 3rd scoring option on the team. He’s better than porzingis.

like I told scoot, they aren’t the favorites in the west of course…but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a damn good shot at coming out of it, too. The grizz do matchup well with the warriors, and are 2-1 against them. They are 1-1 against the suns.

im not counting that grizz team out… “welcome to the dark!”

Good comparison. As I pointed out, I haven't watched Memphis, beyond the 1 time the Bulls played them. So anything I go off of is purely on paper and what's written about them.
