haha it isss the NL Central.. I still think the Reds are going to become more and more dominant as the next few seasons pass..

I like the way the reds are going. and i agree with you, i just think they need a manager that will not destroy their starting staff. the reds are talented that is for sure.

the direction of the team is entirely different.

i think the whole longterm thought process is the correct one. the spending buffet wasnt working and the tire patching wasnt working so this cannot hurt.

See, I completely agree with you on this, but when it comes to Dunn, there are a couple factors that I think makes the Cubs sign him. The first being we have no one for first base. At all. The second being that the Ricketts are going to be blamed for the suckiness of this year, which is wrong. They have said they are all about the fans, which I like. But, most fans are going to think that they aren't trying, etc. They sign Dunn, it looks like they are trying and makes them a ton of money. So many Dunn jerseys would be bought, he'd be an instant icon for the team. Plus, if Rami opts out next year, we will have no power hitter in the line up.

Well.. when you get a news thread closed in the same day of that news.. and a MOD says its your fault.. Go ahead and recalibrate your intelligence.. Apparently its necessary.

if someone else can control dustys pitching moves the reds will be fine with him, if dusty is in complete control they will go through alot of pitchers. that is his only real downfall as a manager, and too bad its a real big downfall

Yeah, but everything is going downhill. Will they sell out still? Yeah. Will they fill the seats, no? Seats being filled leads to so much more money.

as long as they still make a profit for the next year or two they will be happy with a smaller bottom line.....in a business and any business you have to step back from the moment and get rid of that "gotta make a quick buck" mentality and think long term. thats what i do, thats what smart corporations do and im sure that is what rickkets is going to do. you have to think big picture and long term, especially for a new owner. just my opinion when it comes to business.

idk how good he is...I mean...seems like he's had a lot of bad luck in the playoffs...but you know what they say... once = anomaly, twice = coincidence, thrice = pattern....

The Reds have talent, but they aren't a really good team yet IMO. They were only 20-33 (not including 0-3 playoffs) against teams with a winning record, they just played a lot of under .500 teams. Are they a good team? Sure. Are they as good as everyone thinks? No.

That's fine.. Its the first year the current squad even contended.

Getting to multiple LCS's, a WS and a bunch of other playoff berths is fine.. Someday he will go over the hump and win it all.

Ya, ik, I'm just making a point, showing how the Reds are overrated, so they can be overthrown, but yes, it would still be difficult.

I think its a pretty terrible move, and its a knee jerk reaction to a strong start. This happens all the time, and it really never works out.

I don't think the manager really does anything to impact the team, and we have basically told one of the greatest Cubs of all time to go **** off.

If Quade goes 18-19 over his games we aren't even discussing this, it's Sandberg. There was really no reason to not give it to Sandberg.

I just don't agree with the decision, I think Quade is just a knee jerk reaction that won't have any effect on the team, and he most likely he won't be around for 2012, and neither will Hendry.

So we have done nothing to make the team better and have pissed on a Cubs great in the process.

Oh well though.

so why should have it been sandberg?

quade has put in more time in baseball, has been a bench coach in the majors already and has traveled in buses a lot more than sandberg (if that arguement comes up) alos quade has also won manager of the year in the minors. quade is a more qualified candidate.

Quade has managed in the minors for 17 years.. Been some sort of a coach for 8 more years..

The guy has put in his time.

sandberg would have been a "fan" favorite. it would have been done to appease the fan, which the cubs have been doing way too much, now they are focusing on the team and what is best for the team not just to appease the fan

I think the manager should be a fan favorite. I am a big proponent of that. I think the manager has almost zero impact on the game. I dont think Quade will bring anything to the table that Sandberg would have. I really don't.

So I would just rather appease the fans, and make them happy. The second the Cubs start to do poorly the fan base will be all over him. Sandberg and Girardi would have been given at least a leeway period.
