ya but how about drafting a slot TE in rd1 and then a slot wr in rd2..seems like solid drafting strategy

They are rookies so they will share time at the position.

Once 2026 hits kmet is likely gone and loveland will play inline a lot more.

Why is it “likely” Kmet is gone? Johnson and Poles have talked about how well they complement each other and how it opens up their playbook. That premise is no longer valid in ‘26? Who is TE 2 once they cut Kmet? Is it bad to have more capable players?

So Dobbins will now cost us a 7th round comp pick if we sign him before July. Something else to consider.

Quite probably because of money. If Loveland becomes a bigger part of the passing game then Kmet is expendable. That money can be spent elsewhere.

Browns radio host today said he heard that Chubb is getting close to signing with an NFC North team. I can only assume that is us. I think it’s a great idea on a one year deal. If we can squeeze a year out of him it can buy them some time. Revamp the room next year.

I know he is old, and has an injury history but you aren’t signing a prime Barkley in May.
You mean for minimum salary and let him compete for a roster spot? That's fine.

Otherwise, Bears be better off spending $ on a FA Edge/DE player.

Actually nobody has said that, everyone has been talking about how if we could get 75% or 85% of what Chubb was then that would be fine to go with Swift.
reaching 75 to 85 % at age 30 coming off knee and foot injuries the last 2 years is indeed false optimism

I don't agree with that. Reaching a 100% of what he used to be would be false optimism.

Ben Johnson likes to use two TE formations. Plus, Kmet is a very good player both as a blocker and receiver. Not a very good idea to let him go, especially in light of Loveland's injury history. (Any updates on Loveland's injury? He's supposed to be ready for training camp, just Like Kiran A. was last yerar...)

Given Poles love of giving away late rd picks for non-contributors, seems like Dobbins is now the front runner to be signed.

It may not be this year, but if Loveland takes center stage there is no way they continue to pay Kmet big money for a smaller role.

Full range of motion, not cleared for heavy weight lifting or contact yet. Estimated July clearance. That’s all we know.

Probably better to be conservative and not risk of reinjury and resulting chronic problems.
