On 670 the SCORE today they were asking in the 2000's if there has been a better playoff performance by any Chicago athelete besides Niemi's game yesterday.

Only thing they could come up with was Kerry Wood's Game 1 against Atlanta in 2003 and Buehrle's game in the "Piersinsky" game in 2005.

I don't know what exactly people know and don't know... nor do I really care to be honest. But not EVERYONE possibly knew about this before it happened so I bring the news as it's released to the public for those not fortunate enough to know.

Happy? :D[/quote]

Didn't Buehrle pitch a perfect game last year? At the time something that has only been done 18 other times.

Re: Niemi... the story continues!

Was talking to a lot of hockey fans tonight (all fans of different teams). The topic came up of who the actual best goalie in these playoffs have been thus far. Of course Halak received a lot of voted but the Niemi was actually brought up a lot as probably playing just as good if not better than Halak.

He isn't getting enough attention from the Canadian media up here..what a shocker. They are starting to catch on though since the Canucks series and he is starting to get a lot more respect. His performance in Game 1 against the Sharks really nabbed a lot of peoples attention. And rightfully so.

Would be a lot easier for people to get Niemi in their heads if he was a spazz like Luongo or a streaky goalie like his finish counterpart Kipper. Etc etc. I sort of like him being below peoples radar. And hell if I haven't seen a young composed goalie like him in long long time. Miller is probably the only guy in the league that I can compare Niemi's composure too.

He's a gift to this club. Hockey gods help us resign him!!

Niemi is playing very well right now, no real complaints, but if you are talking to people there in Vancouver, they are going to over hype him since he's basically the player that destroyed them in the playoffs. They are going to do anything they can to pump him up so that they can feel better about how pathetic they are... maybe?

yah that's probably true for a lot of Canuck fans. Good point Havoc. But I do think many are starting to respect him. Hard to find any Canucks fan that can say with a striaght face that Luongo was the better goalie in that series. Well maybe a few douchebags would try.

And douchbags they would be, anyone who watched any of that series knows that Niemi outplayed him. At times it was close, but overall, he got it done.

Oh give me a break, man. There's NO ONE more deserving of the Conn Smythe than Toews. Niemi's been good, but Toews is the one "most valuable"....

It's pretty damn close... Just for reference I'll put Halak's lines below Niemi's in BOLD since a lot of morons think Halak has been better than Niemi. He was only better against the Caps where he completely won that series for the Habs. Against Sid and the Pens he was helped in a huge way by Gill/Gorges and Cammalerri scoring 7 times didn't hurt.

Niemi WCF:

3-0

1-2

113/118 Saves (.958 SV%)

55/63 Saves (.873 SV%)

5 Goals Against In 192:17 (1.56 GAA)

8 Goals Against In 149:53 (3.20 GAA)

Toews WCF:

3 GP

1 Goal (1 GWG) - 4 Assists - 5 Points (+1)

4 Shots On Goal

If this trending continues it's going to be very very close. Either way I'll be happy if any Hawk wins the Conn Smythe because that means something marvelous happened that hasn't happened in a looooooooooong time.

So what you're saying is Halak had nothing to do with the Canadians beating the Pens either????? For fucks sake he is the goalie that STONEWALLED both the #1 and #2 seeds in the east. Dude, we all know that you walk around with an exact replica of Annti's prick in your pocket to suck on when you are being insecure, but jesus chill on the worship just a bit. Goalies do not score, you have to outscore your oppponent to win.
