Lafayette B (Sanwich, IL)

How does the media feel about interviewing Niemi and how does Niemi feel about being interviewed? Most of his interviews feel really awkward on both sides.

Jesse Rogers (3:11 PM)

They are because he's from finland and we are not so its bound to be a little awkward but he doesnt mind it. Away from thre rink hes a lot more comfortable. Not much you can do.

Re: Niemi... the story continues!

For those of you not at tonights game you may have missed one of the moments

that is sure to stick in my mind for a lifetime. Post game they are announcing the three

stars of the game. When they get to Antti the place erupts. I mean that literally, it was

deafening. I would guess that the UC was still mostly full of fans and they went crazy with

Antti on the big screen. Sarah is trying to ask him questions and she had to drop back for a

solid minute or two while the place was chanting "ANTTI!" and cheering, hollering like the

national anthem was going on. The look on his face made the moment for me. He kept looking up and around while this was happening and the camera was on him the whole time.

The innocent expression was something to behold. Maybe my explaining it does not do it

justice but it was a great moment in all of hockey. Humble is probably the best way for me

to describe his presence at the moment. Honoring a great player that has been so instrumental in our success is how I can best define it and rightfully so.

Re: Niemi... the story continues!

CBC said his 3rd period save % for the playoffs is .956 (and that was with about 10 minutes left in the game), so it's probably .957 or .958 or .959 or maybe even .960%, now.

NHL.com Article.

I agree Chris, very cool.

"While conducting an on-ice television interview moments after the final buzzer, Niemi was overcome by the sound of 22,275 Chicagoans chanting his name. He gazed up into the stands, mouth agape, having come so ridiculously far from that night in Helsinki eight months before."

Thank you Dale.

Re: Niemi... the story continues!

Unreal. Niemi better watch out because I am developing a little man crush on the guy. Not like Stu who has a full on erection for the guy though.

I have said this before. I have NEVER seen a goalie this cool and calm. I think he is even more head calm than Ryan Miller. Niemi's interviews are just so damn humble and so damn interesting to watch. He is soooo quiet. Where did this guy come from!!

Thank you Dale indeed!!

Yeah, thank you Dale so much for getting this gem for us, also keep your hands off he's ours. It should definitely be between him and Toews for the Conn Smythe, but I think Niemi might just have the edge at this stage.

Niemi already with a franchise record 14 wins in one playoff, according to the finnish press? Belfour had 12 apparently.

Belfour won 12 in 1992 during the first 3 rounds; then was the goalie in the finals when the world famous Mike Keenan got schooled by Scotty and the Penguins.

Re: Niemi... the story continues!

Humility certainly seems to be his character disposition. It was even funnier during the post-game press conference. Niemi gives these four and five word answers, then kinda looks around like, "OK, who's next?"
