I don't see why Stan would get ripped. All those moves HAD TO BE MADE.

Jesus himself would have had to make those trade to get under the cap, Stan has done well.

Personally, I'm happy he is holding his line and not overpaying Niemi for 60gms - then having to deal Sharp.
I think you might be underestimating the bandwagoners who found out the team existed in the last 6 months.
I can see the dirty hand prints of Zito all over this mess. I for one don't buy it at all that Niemi would be a greedy SOB asking for the moon after a 64 game NHL campaign. This is after all a guy who was driving zambonis a couple of years ago to get extra cash and had all but given up the dream of ever playing in the NHL, if he even had those in the first place. Getting a shot in the FEL was probably the best he thought he could manage. Niemi seems like a really humble and low-key dude and his comments of wanting to stay in Chicago makes this charade very strange. I bet Zito has seen Niemi as a good way to get a quick buck for himself and Niemi being the typical silent Finn is just staying quiet and wondering about how business is done in big America.
OR Niemi sees this as maybe his only shot to cash in. He's 27, had a long road the the NHL, and goalies are notoriously flash in the pan.

I still don't understand fans getting angry at players for excerising their rights under the labour agreement.

Yes, but considering the situation the Hawks are in and the general situation of job openings in the league for a goalie who has a been a #1 goalie for less than half a season, the most smart deal for Niemi would be to sign with the Hawks for the year, who still has a good team. Look good being the #1 and the year after get the big bucks on July 1 as a UFA with some more experience that would probably attract more looks from other teams and a willingness from them to sign a long-term deal after he's shown he's not a fluke.

Something to consider if the Hawks need to go to goaltender Plan B- Q had Theodore in 2+ seasons in Colorado.

I really dont want Theodore, I understand our situation but he has never impressed me. Maybe have some good seasons but overall he's always been average to me, he'd be a cheaper Huet if you ask me.

The CBA states that the arbitrator must rule within 48 hours. Does that mean we will get a decision this Saturday which would be 48 hours? Or would it be next business day - i.e. Monday 8/2?

Same here about Theodore. Honestly we should just play with an empty net **** goalies.

I have to agree, its really easy to say you would turn down money to play wherever when you are on the outside looking in and you arent the one that stands to make millions. You hit it on the head about goalie's being a flash in the pan, he knows this is a really good shot to make some real pro money, if he takes half that or less, who knows what happens next year and he never sees a big payday.

and why in general do people have such a big boner for Niemi? The guy was adequate, sure he made some huge saves when we needed them, but there were more than enough situations where he would have been ass raped due to his rebound control if we had a lesser defense. I'm fine with letting him walk if we can get a theodore or Turco for cheaper. People are acting like he's been with the team for 10 years and a HUGE piece to the puzzle.
