Awww shit, did he?

I said something a day or two ago about this, I dont think Price wants to be there - at all. No inside info...just a hunch. He was on JT's world team...and I think he'd resign easily anywhere else but MTL.

It doesn't make sense IMO. Why would they trade for Niemi (assuming he makes around $3.5M) when they could have resigned Halak for nearly the same cost? Secondly, how do the Hawks know Price will sign for a cap friendly deal?

Why isnt Price signed yet? You'd think they'd have worked out a deal with one before moving the other..and I think they felt they could get more for Halak than Price (although I dont think the return was impressive).

Its just really odd to me that Price isnt signed yet, I know he's RFA and theres alot unsigned still. But being the goalie, and wanting to instill that confidence in him, I just think he should be signed by now.

Bowman believes the arbitrator will make the decision regarding Niemi's award on Saturday.

No decision yet.

Bowman says three options are to accept offer, trade Niemi or reject it entirely. Depends entirely on the dollar amount, he says.

Stan Bowman on Antti Niemi situation regarding cap: "We’re confident that we’re going to make it work for us."

Bowman: Of course would be a loss if Niemi doesn't return... But change is part of sports, especially with hard salary cap.

Bowman: In terms of free agents, are a lot on the market... If have to go down that road, will be prepared. Team in October will be ready.

Bowman: Focus been on preparing for Antti, but has had some talks with Huet's agent about next season... Something team will tackle later.

WTF?!?!?!?!?

I will say this...give credit to Scooter for having the conference call period. Better than not saying squat.

Very strange. Did he announce anything new? From the quotes I read, I don't think there was anything new. So, why hold a presser and say nothing?

The only thing I can think of is they think this "official Q&A" will deflect questions getting asked when the convention starts tomorrow. The McD led PR department is all-world when it comes to publicity and this convention is supposed to be the organization's coronation after winning the Cup. They want everything to be upbeat and the spectre of the Cup winning goalie departing after the team was already shredded would pour some serious rain on the parade.

So the plan is probably to delay the arbitrator decision as long as possible and then to take their 48 hours to make their decision and hopefully get through the convention before the Niemi decision is made public.
