Might be a tricky decision for Scooter & Pals. The number is just on the limit on what they can match, but it will be a really uncomfortable fit unless they once again trim some fat, which I don't think would be a good decision.

If the Turco @ $1.5m rumours are indeed true, then I think it's a no brainer to trade/walk-away from Niemi and let him see if he can find a better deal.

That's cutting it really close. I am not sure if I like it. They could ice a 21 man roster with about 240k left.

Word is that the Hawks had offered him 3-year deal worth $2.6m a year, but he elected to go to arbitration. Was it worth it? Now there is a chance, the Hawks accept and trade him to some crap team for a something nice. And I bet that he won't post any better numbers on a worse team and that will further hurt his value on the UFA market. He can thank Zito for it.
That doesn't make sense. If the Hawks offered him $2.6 million and the arbitration award came in right around that figure, why wouldn't they just sign him and keep him then?

300 Level says there is a report that the Hawks have a backup plan in place with Turco if it doesn't work out with Niemi... 1 yr 1.5M.
If that rumor is correct, I'd sign Turco and trade Niemi. We should be able to sign (or add) one more player to the roster under this scenario, plus Turco will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after being dumped and will have a much better defensive corps in front of him this season.

Still one of the best lineups in the NHL.

Scott - Hendry .... gulp!

Even if the top-4 play 50+ minutes per game - those other 9 or 10 minutes are going to be a fire drill - especially on the road.

Please let's not start the season Scott - Hendry. Scott should only be activated when we're playing a goon squad and then as the 12th forward. Other than that he should watch from the press box and fill in for emergency once-in-a-whiles. If Hendry is going to be on the 3rd pairing, at least pair him with someone that has some speed and actual defensive ability.

If it makes you feel better, drop Hendry as the name but the cap hit needs to be the same. And if Scott is the 21st player, someone has to be traded.

Of course Niemi can't be the player traded since we all know a signed arbitration player cannot be traded for a year.

BTW, don't you owe Ton a heart felt apology?

Hope the Hawks sign him as its a good deal if a little to tight for comfort. Think Niemis first move though should be to sack that piece of shit agent for filling his head full of crap. This process could have been over weeks ago if it wasn't for that waste of space Zito, and for what an extra $150k.

Did I miss Jordan Hendry signing for 550K?

See ya Niemi - I only hope Stan can trade him - and get any sort of prospect/pick for him.

The question now is, who would you rather have for one year...

Antti Niemi for $2.75M? Or Marty Turco for $1.5M?

Sure as hell know Antti isn't staying anymore than one year at this point.

I'd take Turco, Ton, and here's why. Yes, he's gonna just sign a one-year deal (mabye), but if he does well and fits well in our system, we could entertain re-signing him, and it would still be cheaper than trying to re-sign Niemi after this year (which I say is an impossibility).

Every last goon on this board bitched and moaned that Turco was over the hill, sucks, couldn't stop a beach ball last spring BUT now that he would alledegly cost 1.5 mil its a "value" signing. Kiss my ass with a hacksaw........................

Not me....I supported getting a vet at the deadline

It worked out with Niemi winning the cup, so kudos to Stan for not making any deadline deals. I thought Turco then was good, as I do now.
