Some people in the U.S., Canada, and Europe watch hockey, and nothing else, because it is predominantly white (not most, but a small percentage).

Some people in the U.S. watch basketball and football, and nothing else, because they are predominantly black (not most, but a small percentage).

These aren't outrageous statements. There are some ignorant people out there.

Any even smaller number of those same fans are absolute racists and despise basketball and/or football because of the dark skin color of most of the athletes.

I haven't met any black people who hate hockey because it is predominantly white, but I'm sure there are those people out there, too.

Those who think that some people aren't turned away from the NBA because of the amount of black athletes playing the sport are extremely naive. I don't know how many times i've heard since the lockout started of the players being called 'thugs'. And for what?

Remember when the NHL players were called thugs during their lockout?

Neither do I.

I actually went to a Blackhawks game before.
I got a lot of cold stares.
I felt a little nervous, like I was going to get lynched after the game.
But its weird because about a half hour after I was at the UC, people were actually walking up to me shaking my hand and thanking me for coming.
Even though I heard the N word slip out of a few peoples mouths that didn't see me, for the most part, the blue eyed devils were kind of friendly to me...

You sure are right on that one.

I like Hockey and think those guys are some of the most skilled athletes in sports.

I could care less if there was Black, White, Green or Purple people playing Basketball or Hockey, I would still watch them just as much.
I'm of the same mind. I like both sports, but as I said I've heard it from people at hockey games, in bars and in casual conversation.

So like I said, it isn't a claim. Just because you feel differently, doesn't make what I said untrue.

No, they should stand their ground. The owners need the players and 50/50 is a bad deal. he players should get more of the pie since there would be no league without them. The owner are being greedy and are trying to punish the players for their own stupidity.

I know some people have a problem with the players making as much as they do and we all know why that is, even if no one says so. But in this case, the players have the advantage, and I would hope that they do try to start their own league. People are forgetting that this situation wasn't brought on by the players. Yet people are blaming them out of what I see as jealousy.

The owners are at fault here. They see the league is getting popular and more money is being pumped into the league and they are greedy and want it all. The owners are trying to paint the players as bad guys, but this is their own fault.

And as long as that happens, their won't be a season.

The Players need to realize a 50-50 deal or possibly a 49-51 deal in their favor is the best they are going to get. There's not going to be a season unless the players lower what they want. Not saying it's the players fault, it's just how it is.

The owners aren't budging here.

But it's not what the players want.

The players have already conceded almost a BILLION dollars back to the owners. I have never seen a league during a lockout where people are telling the players to settle. Like the players don't deserve the money they make. No one said this during the NFL lockout, during the NHL lockouts, or during the MLB players' strike, not even in 1999 during the NBA lockout.

The players are not the ones making a ridiculous demand, it's the owners who are punishing the current players for their past mistakes. The players are giving back 4% of their 57% and the owners, being the greedy assholes that they are want to treat these men like boys and pay them the scraps. Granted the scraps they get are more than all of us make here, but people tend to forget that these owners are filthy rich already and don't need any more money, they just want it.

If there isn't a season, I'm all for the players standing their ground.

Kobe Bryant makes $25 million a year. Would he starve to death if he took a 50% paycut. Now I know $12.5 million isn't that much but he is only a basketball player...

In all seriousness, this is getting ridiculous. The NBA needs to downsize, if a team can't sell 75% of its seat every night then that city doesn't deserve a franchise. There is our money sharing problem solved.

Why should Chicago, LA, New York etc. bail out the small market teams if they can't even get asses in seats? I have to side with the owners here, the players are already making obscene amounts of money in a league that is losing money.

If this season doesn't go ahead I 100% blame the players here.

You blame the players for the owners locking them out because the owners weren't smart enough to control their own spending and scared drafting?

Even when the players are willing to give back almost a BILLION dollars to the owners already?

Wow.

Will the owners starve to death sharing half of their basketball earnings with fellow owners? No, but they want the players to give up money to the owners. That doesn't make sense for the players. The real greedy ones are the owners. They are the one trying to dwindle the guys(player) that make their business venture in the NBA viable.

Owners wouldn't want an NBA team if the players weren't able to generate big revenue. Just ask Dan Gilbert who bought the Cavs strictly for LeBron. So why try to get one over on the players? Teams losing money has nothing to do with player's salary, it's just something that they can feed to the media and fans since they know they can play off the fact that athletes get paid too much. But no one ever says that the owners get paid too much, they are the ones that pay the players. Why aren't they greedy?

If a company is losing money, usually that company has to either introduce pay-cuts or have redundancies, how is an NBA franchise any different?

I don't think it's a particularly greedy thing to do to just want to break even on your investment. NBA players invest nothing but time to play basketball and there is zero risk of not getting payed if your contract guarantees it.

NBA owners on the other hand are losing money and they shoulder all the risk when it comes to the economic side of things. Honestly it's just simple economics in my eyes, if a team is losing money then they have to cut back and that is a fact.

Most NBA owners to my knowledge are independently wealthy outside of their teams and just use it as a hobby. I suppose the argument you could hold is that most NBA owners don't rely on their team to actually financially support themselves and that they are just greedy and want all the money and I respect that view.

But the fact is that the players are currently paid obscene amounts of money already and going 50/50 is hardly an unrealistic ask. Does a player really need to make $300k PER game?

All of this.

If they are losing money, it's their own damn faults for putting teams in markets that cannot support one and then expecting people to just show up in droves. If they say the players are making too much money, there's a simple solution to that, don't pay them as much. They are the ones writing the checks. You mean to tell me that them throwing away money like its water on players that were busts didn't hurt them? Who's fault is that?

Certainly not the players. They have to be smart with their money and as we see, they are not smart.
