No its not a prelude to war.

I watched a documentary on the "secret battles of korea". Also, currently there is an American Medal of Honor winner that earned it in Korea during the vietnam war(I have a book on current living medal of honor winners, and it was funny because he was so relieved to be shipped to Korea instead of Vietnam, little did he know)

Border battles have been common place since the armistice and it hasn't caused full scale war yet, I don't see why this would.

I'm sure Pete could comment he was stationed in South Korea.

I'd say with Afghanistan and Iraq winding down and not being so popular anymore, it's time for us to shift focus to Korea now that we are bringing troops home.

Don't be too sure of that --> http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/11/23/nkorea.skorea.military.fire/index.html?hpt=T1

Normally it's just rhetoric from the North but when you start firing on your enemy that can quickly send things spiraling out of control. One thing that's also part of this is the transfer of power from Kim Jong Il to this son. It's been said his son doesn't have the respect of the military yet and needs "a couple victories under his belt" to secure it. This mini-attack could be part of their plan - they're nuts over there.

They've done this before, they've been doing it since the armistice was signed, Americans have been killed and wounded in border clashes with North Koreans and there has yet to be an outbreak of sustained hostilites.

Look up the Korean DMZ conflict.

For some reason none of this shit that happened in Korea ever seemed to really make news.

Now that they're nuclear and ran a successful nuclear test 2 years ago it's definitely big news, and a big concern. We're not dealing with a stable leader over there - more like a 5 year old having a temper tantrum and his finger on the button.

Although in general The whole fact that the West be it the US or S. Korea never really does anything about this shit is wierd to me. We invade Iraq, when they technically hadn't done anything to anybody but Iraq and they ultimately had no weapons of mass destruction.

Lets see, N. Korea gets Nukes, we do nothing, N. korea sinks ships, shells cities we do nothing. Why exactly did we invade iraq? Seriously, that is why I dont think this is a prelude to war, anything short of a full scale invasion of the North into the south, the US or S. Korea wont do shit except for Clinton era lets launch a small phallic object into some mountain.

I think maybe the biggest thing is the chinese, Maybe the US would have already retaliated via invasion and we just can't gauge what china's reaction would be. I would prefer we save an epic clash like that until after im dead, I do not want to be around for a world war with china, in which russia would probably be a wild card. I actually question if thats a war we can win, Not like Iraq or afghanistan where winning the conventional war is easy and you just have to outlast public opinion with the resulting guerilla war.

I simply don't think conventionally defeating the chinese is possible, not only do they have an assload of soldiers they also have technology and equipment on par with us. Now I am not saying they could defeat and Occupy us either, I just think it would be one big ass devestating clusterfuck that nobody comes out a winner. Anyway the British already told everybody over 9000 times not to get involved in a land war in china.

We still dominate the Chinese in the Air and on the modern battlefield the guy that owns the air owns the battlefield. I still think we would beat the shit out of China. Hell we spend enough on the military that we should beat anyone within a week.

Id rather not find out. Sure we may be superior in the air, but The chinese arent slouches. They have the 3rd largest airforce in the world behind the US and Russia, and you bet your ass it is modernized, they are not wasting away with 70's/80's era technology.

Jian-11's (modelled after Russian Sukhoi 27 Super Flankers)

and they have a fleet of actual su-27's/su-30's imported from Russia.

I do not know if they have any Su-35's or chinese made equivilent as those are essentially Russia's answer to the thrust vectoring technology the US F-22 has (that allowsfor some ridiculous maneuvering)

It's not so much the threat of NK going all 1950 and re-invading the South, I'm more worried about NK selling their nukes and nuke parts to a terrorist who will suicide nuke Israel or somewhere closer to home.

F-22 still beats it in Air Superiority due to it being stealth. I remember they tested an F-22 against 4 F-15Cs and it killed all 4 Eagles before they even found it.

The news is making this out to be a temper tantrum to get attention. Personally, I think the dumb shits in that multiple rocket launcher unit hit the wrong fucking island. I would not for one minute put it past those idiots, with their broke ass military, to **** up a targeting device or to read the wrong coordinates when using it. Maybe they were famished and dehydrated and just read the map wrong, LOL.

And Fluffles, sorry to burst your bubble but any mention of them having a functioning nuclear plant is straight up media bullshit. They might have a pretty looking plant, but it ain't doing anything.

Its all smoke and mirrors with those people. Their only hope (I'm talking about the citizens not the leadership) is that the next Jonger tells the old commie, isolationists in the leadership to fuckoff. He spent about a decade going to school in Switzerland. Do you think anyone that has lived the western life would readily agree to be an isolationist commie? Look what happened to Russia after bluejeans and coca cola moved in.

What nukes and nuke parts? That is all BS.

The only real danger is miscalculation or misreading the other side. If South Korea bent to its hardline and ordered airstrikes. But I highly doubt it neither side wants war.

Kim Jong Un probably will follow his fathers path. He'll have the coke and the blue jeans while keeping his people in the shit. As long as China props them up they'll survive.

Hell, there have been civilian deaths as a result of some of the skirmished or "accidents".

I think the major reasons it does not make news is that very little usually comes out of it (big conflict), there is not too much main stream media around the DMZ, and how many Americans think the Korean War is "over".

This is either and accident or saber rattling. Heard enough from Military buddies who spent time there to know that the skirmishes and stuff like this are not all that rare.

So does India, and they are not exactly friends with the Chinese. In any case, I am not so sure it is in anyone's best interest to get into a major world conflict at this time. However with world resources depleting...
