Yes it will go up but will it go up fast enough not to lose Hammer or Saad or Crawford because even if it the cap goes up to 71 to 72m by summer of 2015 when T & K are due, it will not be enough to keep all 3 of the names I listed or it will be extremely tough to keep all 3.

Yup and every team deals with it.

The big guys should be easier to keep. They already make 6+ it's not unreasonable that they take a discount and make 7-7.5 a year and that's only a small raise

Cap is likely to go up to $70-72 mil (as a conservative guess) for the 2014-15 season (Stan gave an interview a few weeks ago where he threw out $75 mil) so I don't see why it couldn't easily be at $75 mil minimum for the 2014-15 season you are talking about. This 2013-14 mandatory decrease is being artificially created and foisted off on everyone---it will get back on track.

With the UFA signing period beginning today, thought I'd bump this thread back up. Maybe it could get pinned by a mod?

It'll be a slow day for the Hawks (as far as Stan going out and signing players).

I think they will sign a 5-6 defenseman and a 3-4th line depth forward. I don't think we'll see that #2 C signed. Maybe a goalie if Emery signs with another team.

If Emery leaves I suspect Raanta will be the back up. But they may sign another for Rockford.

Flyers have supposedly put an offer sheet on Petrangelo... Nothing like poaching another teams players. Still think that's a scum bag move.

CLEARLY the BEST off-season move the Hawks have made is per Chris Block's awesome scoop in his TMI blog post yesterday was about the hiring of a faceoff specialist in Yanic Perreault----he of the career and League All-Time 61% FO since the NHL started tracking it as a stat. Sounds like he'll be helping Rockford out a lot but since he's technically being given a "Player Development" title I HAVE to believe they'll have him working with the Hawks too like Dir. of Player Development Barry Smith. Right? Right?

So serious question...

How many of these moves do you guys think are "Stan's moves" and how many of them have Scotty's fingerprints on them?

For a Cup, Emery is worth that.... for 1 yr.... ok fine.

Sucks to lose him, but Raanta is a failsafe option. I am totally ok with that.

I think they will sign a vet goalie on the cheap. Theodore maybe?
