Wrong on Hossa. You are correct in regards to Bryz.

Hawks would get a cap hit.

It's right there on capgeek.
Hossa

What do you mean? There's no caphit on compliance buyouts, which we are talking about. And AFAIK it's allowed to do those on these "Luongo rule" contracts.

I thought Frolik was really unsung in the playoffs and a little bit this season. He didn't show up a lot of places on the scoresheets but he always seemed to be pushing the action and around the puck. Especially on the PK. Would hate to lose him for the right price.

Are we really talking about buying out Hossa again?

They can buy him out, and it won't count against the Cap. But Rocky will have to pay out of his ass for a long time... and that's why it won't happen.

I think he should stay, but if he is to go, I hope the Hawks get a king's ransom for him. Him and Krüger were the unsung heroes of the Hawks superb PK and they also seemed to cause havoc in the o-zone, even if they didn't end up scoring.

Leddy wasn't in a doghouse

Hjarll and Oduya around 3.5mil each is a bargain for 3-4 Dmen

Leddy isn't going to command 3mil like some people are freaking out about. Not when Norris Winner Subban has a 2.8 mil cap hit...and Leddy hasn't hit his numbers

No one thought Hammer would get an offer sheet to the amount he did. Some free wheeling GM very well might offer sheet Leddy which will hand cuff Stan's ability to match.

And with the cap coming down...there isn't going to be many teams with the space

A lot of people fetlt the Hawks were going to deal with offer sheets after the Cup year due to their cap issues at that time.

They don't have them this time around.

Leddy wasn't brought here by Dale, he has no attachment to him.

Maybe Kruger, or Bickell, or Beach, or Lalonde. All Tallon picks.... (technically Bickell was Pulfords pick, but Tallon was in charge of that draft and we all know it)

Regardless, I highly doubt any of these players want to go to Florida to "play for Dale"... lol

Leddy will get a 2yr deal...prob around the 3-3.5 range total (1.5 - 1.75 cap hit)

At the end of the 2yrs, he'll still be a RFA and Oduya's contract will be up...and he'll be able to slide into the top 4 as a 25yr old

I saw some GM quoted as saying "he can't think of a quicker way to get fired then buying out a star player and then watching them do well on another team for several years."

A bridge contract would be the right way to do it. He would then have a chance to prove himself and get that big contract when the cap is higher (it will surely go up) than it is now. But then again Toews and Kane would also be up for new contracts in 2 years. So who knows. I wouldn't be surprised to see Leddy get traded at the draft.

Leddy isnt going anywhere and the Hawks aren't making any deals at the draft involving him. Not going to get someone with Leddys talent and readiness anywhere near the trade number you trade him for. That would get Stan in a lot of shit. Leddy is still a future and you don't trade future thats a step ahead for future that has to start the grooming process.

keep an eye on the Oilers at the #7 spot. Rumbles of them trading it off for a good roster ready players (perhaps with a Horcoff or Hemsky inclusion). I don't expect the Hawks to be involved as i think the Oilers will over ask but its interesting none the less. I think the draft will be pretty trade quiet myself but you never know.

I am admittedly a bit ignorant on all of the contract related information. A lot if it is just...well boring to me.

But as I understand (to be happily corrected), the Hawks may not have a choice if a team comes in and is willing to ditch the picks and throw serious money at Leddy, similar to Doug Wilson throwing the cash at Hjammer and Niemi and really forcing the Hawks to make a choice.

I can think of a couple teams that just might be willing to do just that for Leddy that may not be concerned with that "unwritten rule".

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
My guesses:

Mayers - retire

Rozsival - depends if he wants to stay cap friendly hit

Kruger - Qualified and brought back semicheap

Leddy - Might be go if Rosie is brought back. Stays definitly if Rosie is let go.

Stalberg - Dosvidania, Tovarisch!

Bickell - Stays unless his asking price is the keys to Stan and Q's daughters' bedrooms.

Emery - gone

Handzus - Possible retire or signed short-term cheap. Might hinge on Bolland's status.

Frolik - Might be tradebait

Bolland - Hinges on Handzus; if Zeus Stays, Bolland's gone. If Zeus Goes I think Bolland Stays:

Hossa - you're greasing your hair with battery acid if you think he's bought out. I think he pulls a Selanne with us, plays out his contract, and goes into the HHoF as a 'hawk.

Monty - Bought out

Olesz - Bought out

My logic:

Between Leddy and Rosival, I don't think the organization will go with 2 rookies in the bottom 6, and I don't think Brookbank will carry a full 82-game load. We have LHD puck mover rookies on the back end that could possinbly take Leddy's place and we are short a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Conversly, I thought Leddy looked a lot likem Campbell when Campbell first game to the 'hawks. He was one of 2 guys (him and Kane) who could carry the puck from the backend to the attacking zone with regularity (A task everyone else struggles with). If Rosie is Gone, I think Leddy stays and We bring up a big-body defenseman that can play opposite of Leddy's good side with Brookbank and the emergency go-to option.

Between Handzus and Bolland, I don't think we go into next year with 2 rookie centermen. Thus, I think one stays and goes and IMHO: It hinges on Handzus. If Handzus stays, Bolland is moved. We move someone like Leblanc or Pirri into the #2C slot. Sharp and Hossa (and possibly Kane) are both defensively sound enough and vet enough to Get either (or both) acclimated. If not, Handzus is set as line 4 and can be worked in in a pinch. If Zeus walks, the same happens except Bolland anchors the 4th. If a rookie doesn't work at 2C, Bolland may not work that well at #2c, but if a rookie does work out, Bolland would be prime bait at the TDL.

sure. i was speaking more of the hawks actually actively shopping him around. always a threat of offer sheets but that's a different beast which one has to deal with as they come. personally i cant stand them and think they don't belong but thats a different discussion. think they are nasty bloody things.

i also agree with the majority regarding hossa. I dont see the buy out there at all. guys got a shit load of hockey left in him despite the recent health problems. plus he is still marketable. Wont be a popular thought but I wouldn't care if he really didn't play a full season next year and the team played him cautiously until he gets some of his health back. Depending on the severity of some of it anyways. If he can op for operations then let him do it.

I just don't see how Leddy won't receive an offer sheet. If Clendeling is all he is cracked up to be and the price is above 3.75 I would part ways.

And I am a HUGE Nick Leddy fan, that is just the nature of the NHL in the cap era. Sometimes things are just not realistic.

suppose it depends on what else is out there for teams to throw offer sheets at and what teams really can realistically do it. Im not going to put the time into speculate what teams can and should or would. Bet the list is low though but yah once again the Hawks are in a vulnerable spot for teams to pounce.

I am sure that Leddy will get an offer from Hawks...

I am also PRETTY sure he will get another from Non-Hawks.

I dont think he can sit anywhere beneath a radar, not with a kid who almost takes the blue line as easily as Campbell (Sucks), with the balls to do so regularly.

probably right. I know the Flyers still want to stack their blueline even after the Streit signing. But they want once again a "pronger type"..they cant get over that guy lol. With the money they are clearing off their cap right now you never know a guy like Leddy could work for them also. Would hate to see the kid end up there but I wouldn't put it past those filthy Flyers to try and stick it to us. Leddy would make sense and not make sense for the Flyers...so in that case Flyers would probably be a team who would throw a sheet at him. They dont know what they are doing there...esp still being hung up on Pronger retiring.

one could always hope leddy himself would just rather sign with the hawks for less than any offer sheet if they come his way. i know thats not realistic in the salary world but you never know. kid has a lot of time to get his payday so signing a couple years with the hawks to try and raise his stock isn't out of the question either. but no one would throw away a 3 mill payday if something like that came along.
