The Bears have the money to invest in a player like Okereke. They need a coverage linebacker just as desperately as a Wr, pass rusher, etc. They have a lot of holes to fill.

Is he a coverage LB? His passer rating against was 103, has never been below 100 and is 104.2 for his career. Doesn't really scream coverage LB to me. Quan's career passer rating against is 86.2 and never been higher than 90.2

Yes, but I think in the NFL there are a lot of positions where you really should fill holes with draft picks and or cheap signings.

I could see coverage linebacker growing in importance as a position, but on the other hand teams seem to just be plugging in safeties at that spot and doing alright.

I'd prefer to pay for a surplus of WR and pass-rushing talent.
The problem is the Bears have so many holes to fill. Some will be through draft picks and some through FA. With Okereke you get a guy who knows the system which is beneficial for the defense.

Does plugging in safeties work for Eber’s system? Can’t just plug in a guy if it’s not how the system works.

Even if the Bears paid Okereke $12-14 m a season, they still have plenty of money to use elsewhere. Plus what FA Wr is worth a ton of money?

It's a Cover 2 system, no? That's not really unique these days with teams generally moving away from single-high.

I would pay up for Jakobi Meyers and Darius Slayton at WR. Jarvis Landry, DJ Chark, and Parris Campbell maybe of interest as well.

But I absolutely agree with you on what is the big problem: We have a ton of holes to fill and also have urgency to win with the clock ticking on Fields' contract. I worry that situation will lead us to use our assets/cap space inefficiently.

Someone who makes less than Okereke will either only save $4-6M (roughly the same difference between Roquan and this hypothetical contract for Okereke), or be replaced by a rookie (and using a third or fourth rounder for one isn't out of the question here). This for a linebacker that will be on the field most of the game.

I think you can spread money out on position groups that have more rotation, but paying good money on productive players that don't rotate as much is fine in my book. Bring in Okereke.

We just need to figure out a way to get both 1st round picks from Houston, Seattle and Philly and draft a T, WR, TE, RB, DE and 3T and do the rest in free agency. Seems pretty simple and wouldn't doubt if there's already multiple mocks doing just that on CCS. :deer:

Get to work Poles.

I don’t think that’s a wise use of dollars, but I could see Eberflus wanting a LB, since he was a LB coach for so many years.

Bears need a legit #1 Wr and none of those guys are that. I don’t think any of them are worth spending big money on.

I think it’s a position that needs to be addressed but there are better options out there

Look how well that worked out with Alquadin Muhammad, oh wait...
Does that mean it’s going to happen with every player who knows the system already? Coaches tend to bring in players that know their system. It’s nothing new.

So by that logic, then Buckner wouldn’t work out either!
