Pretty much this. And the only consequence Jimmy Haslam suffers for upsetting the apple cart is being invited to fewer cocktail parties. Also not buying the argument this has anything to do with having to give up two firsts.

It's not like $32.41 mil is chump change but at almost $8 mil less than Daniel Jones will make this year it's still an insult.
Yeah but if Lamar Jackson would just drop the demand for fully guaranteed money he would blow Daniel Jones' contract out of the water.

Taylor wasnt really good in zone or gap per PFF. The split between them was about 50-50 and he had a 48.1 grade in zone and 38.5 in gap.

McGary had a 91.1 grade in zone and 70.2 in gap. Falcons ran zone 71.5% of the time.
Good info thanks. Any idea on Taylor's numbers in previous seasons? Just wondering he hasn't blocked much zone and wasn't as used to it. Grasping at straws really.

I find it funny you object to people saying they didn't know it would be a 1st round pick when it's actually still a 2nd, LOL. Somebody needs an adjustment. The way to look at this is the we didn't expect the pick to be about 10-12 slots higher. It's also too early to judge that trade. Middle of next year will give us a better perspective.

I am pretty sure Poles knew it would be a top 5-10 pick in the 2nd round as the D was coming off giving up 49 without Quin then promptly traded Quan. So he knew the D would suck and they would lose a lot of games as a result.

He'll choose whoever gives him the most money. NO is off the market. Jets seem to be Rodgers or bust. Colts and Carolina appear to be focused on draft prospects. That leaves Houston, Washington, Vegas, and Tampa as the QB needy teams.
I know its easy to always just say this but some players do take less to go into situations that fit them better.

He was bad before this year. You don't need PFF or half decade old RAS scores to tell you that. They would've extended him last off-season when they were swimming in cap space if he were anything but awful in his first three years with Jacksonville.

Agreed. But that argument favors Houston as well due to familiarity with the regime and projected offensive system. And it also happens they have the most money of the likely interested teams as well.

I mean I do need PFF scores to tell me that, because I don't sit around and watch Jags game like 95% of the rest of the world. I've seen highlights and the playoff games this year where he was excellent in pass blocking, but I wasn't watching his specific run blocking each play. And he clearly wasn't "awful" in pass blocking ever if his overall PFF grades are average or better with poor run blocking.

Zone 55% of time with 42.8 grade with not much difference between zone and gap. Was better the other 2 years with 66 and 70 grades in zone so he has gotten worse run blocking.

I think the problem is the projected offensive system, where we all know what a guy like McDaniels would like to run in Vegas with more established personnel.

The Texans have the same issue the Bears have, they need a ton. I just don't think them paying big money to Jimmy G makes a lot of sense considering where they are right now.

Yup. 5 spots or so would have probably been a better post. If the OL didn't constantly implode and Clayton not get dinged, 7 wins was not out of the question but something like 5 was probably closer to where they could have been. That decimated team lost 5 games by less than 1 score.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense either, but that is a different conversation.

That being said, it makes more sense for them than it does most teams high in the draft. They have done the draft pick thing at QB and Watson had severe off field stuff pop up. At least with Jimmy G, you know he won't be sexually assaulting everyone in the Houston area and he gives you a respectable floor. And they have 2 first round picks each of the next 2 years, so they are more equipped to handle having all those needs than the Bears are as of today.

Thanks again. Still doesn't think that deters me from Taylor. 66 and 70 are respectable, and if he can get back to that with a coaching staff that has at least shown they can coach run blocking, if nothing else. And again, pass blocking was a huge issue for this team and he's only 26. I'm not going to complain about any OL help that's a solid starter.

Yup.

The bears o line was atrocious in pass pro last year to the point the coaching staff had to scheme plays around their deficiencies.

Why should the bears bring in an O lineman that has the exact same issues? It’s so dumb.

Well the bears o line can’t pass block so forget pass blocking let’s bring in more o lineman that can only run block so the bears can never pass!

That's insane reasoning.

But i'll just agree to disagree.

I agree with you and will go one further: why would a coach put the rookie in this position with Jimmy G.? Sitting on a bench isn't in JImmy G.'s best interest. He is going to want to play as long as he can. Also, there's the optic that the coach and gm would not trust a QB they draft by hedging him with Jimmy G., thereby setting up a situation of a QB controversy should Jimmy G. not fail.

With Davis Mills, they already have a proven quantity. They can have the same effect with him. The only thing I can think of is that they are targeting AR and want him to sit for a year, so the Love in the FGB situation or everyone's favorite example in Mahomes. Either way, this makes no sense, which is perfectly in line with the Texans's SOP and the kind of kryptonite situation that Jimmy G should run away from.
Jimmy G back to new England isn't unheard of.

I think it depends on cost. Dont like the idea of signing a guy to 17-20m contract who is a good not great pass blocker and atrociois run blocker. Would prefer to sign someone at least good at both. If he ends up more in the 15m range then fine.

I prefer McGary as he has improved every year just about and is at least elite in one trait and adequate in the other. I also expect him to be cheaper. If they end up with Taylor though I would hate the move but generally speaking this is where teams run into trouble. Significantly overpaying for good but not great players.

Could be the swing tackle or RT. Good veteran presence that wants another big contract in 2024 considering how bad he was

A bit big for the scheme but would rather sign a guy like him for much cheaper than shell out 17-20m for a good not great tackle. We dont have to overpay a ton just because we have money. Sign cheaper upgrades until you have a shot at a true impact player either in FA, trade or by developing one.

I'd take mcglinchey or Taylor over mcgary. Mcgary had one good year in a contract year when his team schemed to help him out with his deficiencies and then they weren't interested in bringing him back even though they had huge cap space.
