I wouldn't hate Jones starting at LT. I wouldn't hate him being replaced for a year or two while he continues to get better either.

We obviously have more glaring holes. I don't think it's Poles' priority, but we'll see.

Center and RT are obvious needs. I know Leatherwood was exposed at RT but I wonder if he could pull it together and replace Whitehair at LG? It’s crazy that a guy that was as productive as he was in the SEC could struggle this much in the NFL. He has talent and a good athletic profile. His confidence must be shattered.

Carter is a backup guard too that had a season to work, get stronger and adapt to the NFL game. I wonder how good he might be?

Agreed on all points, but the issue is guys like Jones can sometimes need full NFL offseasons in the weight room to get to that point.

I would rather actually bring in a vet to man the left side and let Jones develop behind the scenes.
He’ll get this off season to do that and he can build on the his experience starting 17 NFL regular season games.

Competition is great, but he took his rookie lumps. I think he’s ready for a big jump.

What LT would you bring in? I don’t see one available in free agency.

Doesn't McGlinchey have a pretty lengthy injury history though? Pretty sure Poles has said he was going to stay away from injury prone players as much as possible? I think i have my top 3 ranked:

J.Taylor
K.McGary
McGlinchey
He missed a bunch of 2021 with a torn quad, but other than that he only missed 4 games in 2019. He's played every other game, so he's missed 13 of a possible 82 games, not including playoffs where he missed in 2021. Even still, you're still talking 16 of 91 games missed, 12 of them in 1 season. Torn quad is a bad injury, especially for linemen, but he came back from it just fine. But that's not anything close to what I would call "lengthy injury history".

It's because @dabears70 is a moron.

He played reasonably well. He still got walked back into Fields way too much. If we replace him as the starting LT, that means we got better. And having a swing tackle that you drafted in the 5th round is solid value.

He's good enough. But hopefully we're working towards "good enough" not being good enough. Lol.
I'm sure he is. Seems a very mature and dedicated player. What's great is that he can handle already handle a speed rush pretty well. Now if Fields could only step up.

There was a recent "2022 re-draft" published by some football outlet, PFF or something. Brax was 11th overall. Not that that's the end-all be-all but it shows that he's pretty highly regarded. Yea he needs to improve but you can't afford to replace positions filled by good players. It'd be like us looking for another safety cause Brisker showed a lot of promise but could have been better.

The only, only reason people think Jones should be replaced or moved is because he was a 5th round pick. Were he a second or first rounder, people would have him penciled in there and not think twice about it. Braxton Jones performed better than Kyler Gordon on the whole and I haven't seen a single person say we need to bring competition in for Kyler Gordon.
