With two seconds and a third, they can address WR, CB, and edge rusher with quality players. I assume they will also sign a WR in FA, since the position is decimated and you want to give Fields decent targets.

Screw edge. Build around Fields. Defense can wait a year

This draft is deep in talent. Am hoping the Bears can unload Quinn next

Bummed, but understand. This is what happens when you convert to signing bonuses and carry around dead money like it's not there. This is a good move, shit load of talent in round 2

this needed to happen. Bears are not going to truly compete this year. They don't have the firepower on the roster yet.

Trading Mack will bring draft picks and massive cap relief next year.

This also gives the Bears some ammo to trade up if they want a particular wide receiver.

( feel like they could have gotten more back, Chargers have 11 -now 10- in this years draft) , but at least the contract is off the books for next season.

But this way they have $12m more in 2023.
they will have the same cap liability next year whether they traded or cut him this year

The only difference is a 2nd rounder this year or 12m in cap space....the second rounder is more valuable.

The Bears could have cut Mack with a post June designation and only had 12m cap hit......the draft choices seemed to be worth it for Poles.
???!!!

Yeah, we could have cut him to save a few mol this year, but go no draft compensation and another big cap hit next year to go with it…

The $12mil they would save from a post June 1 cut carries over to 2023 cap.

I guess if they also carried over all that additional space it would be a wash. But then you don't get the pick and it's the same result cap wise in 23.

I hope Poles is savvy enough to let the draft come to him and not trade away his limited draft picks.
