ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bears have requested an interview with Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland for the team's open GM position.
The Bears are casting the widest net possible for their open head coaching and general manager jobs. A Bill Parcels disciple from way back, Ireland's tenure as Dolphins general manager ended with fans flying "Fire Ireland" banners of the team's stadium in 2011. He was fired in 2013 after five seasons as Miami's GM. Ireland is well known for his abominable handling of a pre-draft interview with Dez Bryant in April 2010.

Fyling banner's over the stadium 'fire Ireland' HARD pass.

Not bears news, but anyone notice that not one of Pace's minions have been called for an interview or even speculated.

If this was true Bama would fall apart every year in the post season when they play similarly talented teams. Let’s not sit here and act like he doesn’t know his X’s and O’s

You clearly did not read what I said. I said they get the No 1 recruiting class just about every year.

Since 2011, Bama has had the No 1 recruiting class 9 times out of 11. No team is as talented.

GA is in fact the only other team to capture a No 1 ranking in 2018 and 2020 and surprise surprise GA just beat Bama for the title based largely off of their recruiting the last few years.

There is no scenario in the NFL where a team can win the Super Bowl and still basically get the No 1 draft 9 years out of 11. Thr NFL has parity. College football does not. Saban is basically in the CFP every year before the season even starts as he bar none gets the best recruits.

I really like what Mike Florio had to say here.

#1 thing is the prejudice that may happen with a singular consultant who at the end of the day holds no responsibility.

Ed Dodds. I know the guy from back in the day. Him and Ballard may be tied at the hip, we will see.
What does that mean? That Dodds won't leave for a GM job, and remain asst to Ballard forever? Can't see that.

And? Am I expect to believe that Saban wins solely off talent? There are plenty of talented teams out there that underperform every single year in CFB. To think recruiting classes alone win you championships in CFB is laughably stupid.

I think it is extremely important to hire a head coach who can assemble a team of position coaches. Flores does not have a good track record there
Flores is the odd combination of a coach who refused to make changes to his staff when management wanted him to, yet has constant staff turnover.

For a GM job? Not sure why anyone would after the head guy got canned.

Every time I see a picture of Josh McDaniels and think about him being on a lost of candidates, I picture the ending of Animal House when they show Niedermeyer, and "killed by his own troops".
