If a team wants to pay Wilson #1 starter money, more power to them.

I don't see it being worth it for the Cubs to do that.

I agree. Now if we thought Wilson was final piece to team then hell ya pay the man but he not. With Fielder im thinking of 2012 + Fielder will still be in prime in 2-3 years.

I'm not derailing this thread by mentioning he who shall not be named, but this idea that Wilson should be worth more or less money because of how he performs in this game is silly. I realize that it will in the real market, but the idea that how a guy performs in a handful of postseason games has any bearing on how he will perform in future ones is not reality.

What is number 1 starter money because I think you guys really underestimate what that it is the current market given the deals that CC and Lee got.

  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
But it does have a bearing on his value, which is what I'm arguing.

What you mean by value? Are you talking about the price on the open market he will get which is true or are talking about actual value to a team which is false?

I think if he does have rough series it could affect his FA money. Teams will be scared to pay him to be number 1 when they see he getting outpitched by a rookie.

Value in free agency.

I really hope a team doesn't consider Wilson to be a solution to their problem.

I think we arguing about two different things at this point. We can all agree that postseason performance is a factor in contract negotiations, but what I am arguing is that it shouldn't overly effect how he is valued by teams going forward because there is no indication that he is unlikely to perform as he has throughout his entire career in these situations going forward.

Yup...certain GMs will look at him and say "oooh, he sucked it up in the playoffs, let's pay him less" and lose out on CJ Wilson because they decided not to take into account his strong peripherals and the fact that he ate 200 innings to get the Rangers to the playoffs. Certain GMs will also put too much emphasis on ERA and what not.

CJ Wilson will still get paid though.

I hope no team thinks any player is a cureall for their team. However, he is a huge improvement over the current starters on the one we root for at this point, and is likely to be vastly better than anything coming through the system in the next several seasons.

CJ will get paid cause he good pitcher BUT also cause the SP market is SO WEAK!!! I think Wilson could turn into a Lackey deal

If the Cubs were a starter away from competing, I wouldn't have a problem overpaying for someone.

Sad fact is the Cubs are about 4-5 players away from competing and 2-3 positional upgrades (2B and CF) away from competing.

Acquiring any top tier free agent involves overpaying. I don't want the Cubs to pay Wilson whatever it takes to get him, but I do want them to be aggressive in acquiring top of the rotation talent that the farm system can't produce for the next several seasons.

Jon Morosi C.J. Wilson has to hope a lot of owners aren't watching this game. His last impression before free agency? #Rangers

Any time a free agent to be has a great or poor performance in the postseason, everyone thinks about how it affects their contract status...
