If the Cubs were a starter away from competing, I wouldn't have a problem overpaying for someone.

Sad fact is the Cubs are about 4-5 players away from competing and 2-3 positional upgrades (2B and CF) away from competing.

If Cubs spend the money right they could get 4-5 guys. I know it prolly wont happen but with money coming off the books this year and then even more next year we can only pray Ricketts put it back into the team.

I would take Burlie over Wilson cheaper and just as good. CJ is really overrated IMO. I wouldnt pay him more than 8m per year.

And that is a good thing because I would love to have him at 12 million a year, but I doubt that gets it done even after this outing.

And cost a ton more...Clearly the Cubs are better if they can get a top of the rotation starter and a premier 1B. No one is debating that fact.

Again with 50 mil coming off books there no reason they cant get a stud 1B like Pujols and SP like Burlie.....Another way to save 6.5 mil and get better is trading Byrd lame ass and have Jackson come up. Jackson gives team more power, better speed, and more patience at the plate. With Fielder and Jackson in lineup ur walks would go up.

yea...how much money u think it would take to get Friedman over to Cubs?

I don't know to be honest. I really don't know the market for GMs, and I am not sure what other perks are involved that Ricketts can offer. I am just hopeful that he has zeroed in on Friedman as the pick of the litter.

One thing he can offer is a promotion. President/GM title. So he be the only baseball man.

Yeah I don't think he will offer the title, though from what Ricketts has described the GM is the de facto President of Baseball Operations. At least that is how his comments when he announced the firing of Hendry seemed to indicate.
