I will never understand either. I spent 2 hours today listening to very passionate dude about his process. Gets things tested for impurities and any growth enablers throughout his harvest and end process just to create a perfect thing for the end user. It is insane to me how far weed has gone in the last 20 years. Pretty amazing and at the same time sad that someone who once was a bootlegger is more scientific about it out of curiosity producing things that big pharma should have already been selling.

Srs. I asked a couple of questions and then two hours later I had the answers but felt less informed than when I started.

What did you use as a wash again? And how long did you let it soak? Your pic looks like you pulled a lot of chlorophyll.



And some companies are flavouring it with fruit flavours, like nicotine vapes. I'll never understand removing the terpenes only to replace with fruit, or bubble gum.

But how long did you wash it in iso? Ethanol is a better choice. And working fast, and cold is good idea. Put everything in the freezer for a while before doing the wash. I doubt leaving it in the sun would eliminate chlorophyll. It may break it down some, and turn a bit amber, but it will still be there. As well as any waxes you pulled.

It looks like yours is more an RSO (Rick Simpson Oil), which is usually a whole plant extract, and is washed for some time, resulting in a very dark oil. Maybe you were aiming for that, as this is the type of oil many have used for cancer treatment.

I saw different recipes calling to put the wash in the freezer for a couple of weeks but my friend is coming over today to get some....lol. Since I ruined an entire bottle I am kind of in a hurry .So yes...the wash was for about 30 minutes in the alcohol being shook and mashed before straining. I am hoping for more CBD than THC but nothing I did was specifically for that reason. Once it dried out the residue was black and sticky ball of whatever that was then introduced to the coconut oil in a double boiler. I will add a pic of the dish as soon as it dries entirely. In fact I am going to post the entire method I used with pics just so those smarter than me can critique what I did wrong and what I need to do differently. I like immediate gratification but I can put the entire wash in the freezer for the next batch if that is what folks think I should do.

See.......I am ignorant of the scientific reasons why I am doing what I am doing. And what things may make it better. So anything anyone can tell me would be greatly appreciated. I start reading these long boring scientific articles, quickly get bored, and go look at my trichs under my microscope....lol.

For a cherry or honey oil, that are more translucent red, or amber, most people wash for 20-30 seconds in iso, not 30 minutes. You can run the product through a second wash, but it won't be as potent.

A charcoal filtering would remove Chlorophyll beter than UV, but adds particles.

So did I mess it up? I did not have enough alcohol. It only filled the jar halfway. So I had to run get some more 91 percent and use salt to pull the water out (15 minutes) then I actually did the mashing and shaking for about 2 minutes. I saw the 30 second thing and thought longer equals better.

Not necessarily. You were making it for a cancer patient, and RSO is very popular for that purpose.

The dirty iso and salts may have been not a great addition to the process.

Cherry and honey oil are made more for smoking, but not exclusively. The cannabinoids are extracted much more quickly than the waxes and chlorophyll. And mashing will help the chlorophyll and waxes to release more easily. I was actually looking for grain alcohol but I live in the boonies and no one carries it. I read that if you put salt in the bottom of a jar and pour the 91 percent over it and then let it sit for 15-30 minutes it will extract the water making it 99 percent or better. Then I used a turkey baster to remove the alcohol from the jar and transferred it to the mixing jar.

Not sure where to get ethanol.

So is this stuff dangerous to use with a dropper? I certainly don't want to hurt anyone. Most of the videos I watched had used either 91 percent or 99 percent IRA

I just wouldn't use isopropyl, 91 or 99 for ingestion. But that's me, and I don't like ingesting anyway.

Ethanol is proving to be superior for extracting, and if you use 200 proof, it is way more free of any toxins than 99 iso.

That looks pretty good. 99 iso is pretty safe, and you are going to evaporate it anyway. A few people's guts don't like ingesting oil, but I don't think what you have made will make anyone sick.

I thought you meant you added salt to the wash, lol.

No.....I researched it and saw that if you took 91 percent and added it on top of a third cup salt and let it sit the salt would extract the water making it 99 percent or better. Then I used a turkey baster to extract the top layer of alcohol and added it to the jar with the pot.

That gummy or still flowable, and does it smell heavily of iso? Do you have any idea of the THC potency of the strain you extracted?

It is still flowable. I am not going to do anything with it until it is entirely dry. I used a little over an ounce of White Widow that I pulled a few weeks early because it went hermie. I use the same amount in my butter and it works well. I tend to go abit overboard in how much product I use.

Short of testing it you can guesstimate. Do you know the weight of your yield there? Weigh the pan empty next time, and after the alcohol is evaporated off the concentrate. Your white widow was maybe 15% THC. Probably 10%. So 10% let's say of your weight is the active ingredient, THC. If you dilute 1 gram of that in to 1oz of coconut oil, you have about 100mg THC per 1oz. 30mls per oz, about 3.3mg THC per ml. Again, strictly a guess. No idea how much weight you have there for a total yield or what your flower would have tested at.


Get some 1oz dropper bottles for tinctures, preferably not clear.
