Overall team wise they probably don't have the speed yet. Slowly mesh in the youngsters and it will be there as a team. Not much of a Jones fan, but I could be wrong about him.
He has some skills that they need. He can skate and handle the puck....he does make the occasional boneheaded play, but sometimes you have to overlook that stuff. They are playing guys who can't skate, shoot or handle the puck and make the same dumb plays in Brodie and Murphy. Besides, with that contract....he's here for awhile.

Definitely renewed interest for me, hope it lasts as long as it can.
Hockey is funny the way the scales tip sometimes, player to player, system to system.
Adaptability and flexibility are going to be key coaching traits in this era. Use what works with the guys you have. Don't get hung up on a style as AI will come up with a new one tomorrow.
If the BHs trade away a few F vets at the deadline, does anyone know who the most likely to be called up?
Where is Dach?

I think a major issue with Jones is that he was brought in to be a Keith, and he's not. He's more of a Brian Campbell where his skills are more O-biased as opposed to Keith, who was great in all 3 zones. Jones is not a bad player, per se, but he's overpaid, past coaching has expected him to play a game he's not good at, and there are times his attitude makes him seem like a prima donna.

We can work around some of that--like give him a D-1st guy to play with (i.e. Vlassic). That being said I'd rather have Vlassic out there in any situation where we need to stop the other team from scoring.

I would rather see Jones out there over Martinez, Brodie, & Kaiser. Vlassic is Vlassic. Murph, even though old and slow has his uses. Korch has looked decent enough up here this year. Allan has looked decent enough as well, so when he gets back I think we send Kaiser down, and when Martinez gets back he and brodie can share pressbox durties.

Yea.. I'm probably a little critical of Jones...When watching highlights, it seems he's on the ice many times when there's a goal scored against us. And definitely overpaid!!! I know he's no Keith...how many players are? I saw many games when the Cup teams were together, so I know who was who. Good comparison on Jones and Campbell.

I don't like how they record shots on goal sometimes. Hawks were getting lot's of pressure but no clean shots. Shorty pulls them closer.
Exactly what is considered a SOG? If a team on PK clears the puck from their end and it softly reaches the G while in his blue area, is that a SOG? Does it have to be considered a legitimate chance for a goal? If an Offensive player is making a pass to a teammate and it deflects off of a D-player and hits the G, is that a SOG? I'm confused also. Anyone please feel free to define a SOG.

I'm not exactly sure how subjective it is but I believe the goalie has to make and actual "save" for it to be considered to shot.

Didn't see most of the game but I'm at least glad to see them putting up goals that was the one missing piece for the most part. When I did flip over to it they were getting killed in shots again though and :00 the score was like 4 to 1

That's how I look at it, but not sure that's the NHL's take.

From what I gather, a shot counts if a goalie makes a save while in the crease (I think at the scorekeepers discretion-i.e. i think if a shot was going way wide or way high with virtually no chance of going it they might not record it as a shot), or if the puck goes in. Post, not a shot on goal.

I believe there is a stat for shot attempts.

But for your example of a pass that deflects on net, it is a shot on goal--counted as a shot by the last offensive player to touch it.

There is definitely a stat for SAs.

Wonder if Hawks can get a future first (say 2026) for Dickinson if they retain 50 % through next year. He’s perfect as 3rd/4th liner on a contender at 2 million a season.

Hawks need to keep stacking picks regardless of how many they already have had in the past 2 years. They have 2, 1sts and 2, seconds this upcoming draft and 1, 1st in 26’ and 3, 2nds in 26’.

Agreed....keep the competition at a high level and don't let anyone feel safe about job security.
