Viciedo not playing because of the great Mark Kotsay.

What was the point of calling this kid up?

Im wondering the same thing. Ozzie usually never does that kind of thing. There's clearly something we dont know.

I'm sure Ozzie just doesn't want him to face Hanson, he is picking his spots carefully to give him success.

What, not play the young kids? He does it all the time. Just look at how much he blustered at the notion of bringing up Beckham last season.

This Atlanta guy Hanson kinda reminds me of Clayton Richard - except he is right-handed.

But once he calls them up, they play. Like with Jerry Owens (yes I know he sucked but Ozzie saw him as a good prospect, and i did too at the time) he said if he wasnt gonna start he would be in AAA.

And I think the delayed Beckham call up had more to do with delaying arbitration... something about how you get another year if you call them up after a certain point... maybe May? Not sure.

I highly doubt Ozzie is intelligent enough to understand what the arbitration clock even is, much less when it starts and how long teams have. He was blustering because he doesn't like being forced to play the kids. Even getting the BA/Jerry Owens tandem on the field (JO was a decent prospect at one point) was met with the likes of Darin Erstad and Rob Mackowiak in 2007, and most recently DeWayne Wise. Josh Fields, who turned out to be sub par but was still a decent prospect, had to scratch and claw to get even minimal PT from Ozzie over the remnants of Joe Crede (who had solidified his position as a BAD 3B by that time in 08-09).

And on the pitching side, look at how absolutely atrocious the likes of Jose Contreras and Bartolo Colon (2nd time around) had to be in order for Ozzie to take them out of the rotation in favor of other, mostly younger, pitchers. Colon easily got 4 or 5 more starts than he should have.
