My favorite teams
I'm pretty sure Dews prefers cocks over cawks.

Actually it is a large amount, and a huge increase over recent years. You can argue that it doesn't mean that the team won't cut payroll in the offseason, but the Cubs have spent more on this draft than any year in the past. The past three seasons the Cubs ranked 24th in terms of amateur draft spending. This is a huge shift in philosophy to spend as much as they did in the draft and this is absolutely a positive thing no matter how much you want to diminish it.
I was happy with the draft I don't think it'll be super-impactful for years but it's a start, eh?
To be frank, it's easier to invest $12MM in a draft for 30 or so kids to fill out minors rosters than it is to blow $20+MM per year for Prince Fielder. It's good that they spent well in a solid draft but this won't mean much for a few years.
12 million dollars for the draft isnt a lot of money. but hey, if 500 million in debt and begging for money makes you think they are going to spend, have at it. I will be right once again. sig bet? i will do it for a year, you can do it 1 month.
It looks like the draft and building a foundation is the plan. But like rice cube stated, its 12 million on a whole bunch of guys not 15/7 on 1 player plus other fantasy land FA signings CO is thinking. Its comparing apples and oranges at this point. and spending 12 million on the draft has zero to do with not having money, all it does is show that is the pathway ricketts is leaning....building from within. But to state that ricketts spent 12 million on the thousands of players means he has money and will have a big offseason is fucking stupid on COs part.

But he is saying that the Cubs have no money to spend. If they don't have money, how did they afford 12 million dollars on specs?
Blow 20 million on Prince? Prince is one of the few players in the league who is actually worth that.
I already agreed to it, so will you quit bringing it up?
12 million isn't a lot of money? HAHAHAHA! You so funny!
If the debt & begging is so bad, then how can we afford this?
do you know anything about budgets that are already planned. The money that was spent was known to be spent before it was spent. That is how it works. that money was already factored in. its a sign of rebuilding from the farm, and to be honest there is nothing wrong with that. It is probably in the best interest financially and for the future of the cubs players so that there isnt a log jam of bad contracts again on this team. I know you want to :fap: to FAs that you wont get, and i can appreciate that, i really can. But a fan that wants a winner, should be happy if this is the direction ricketts is going.
Which part of my posts made you think that I'm not ecstatic about it? Was it where I went "Great, Great, Great News?"
really CO?
Do you know how to make a quality post?
Here's a thought: Explain yourself instead of putting quotes in your sig. It's a thought!
You state that the 500 million dollar debt will keep them from being spenders this offseason, but I don't see anything to back it up. I saw Dabs post about how payroll could go down to 115 million. Even if it does, we can still afford Fielder. So again, I don't see what you're basing all your shit off of.
anyway. you arent getting fielder, just like you didnt get dunn. you arent getting any big time FA. 115 million is actually optimistic, could it happen? sure. doubtful. Doesnt = Prince Fielder.
it will be so sweet once again when you get kicked in the face again this offseason. dont let me spoil your dreams son.
Wasn't CO supposed to have a Sox sig or something for like 1 full year because we didn't get Dunn?

Selig told the Chicago Tribune on Friday the Cubs face "absolutely no" consequences because of the nature of their debt and the franchise's history.
"I have no concerns, nor does anybody in baseball and all the financial people [we deal with]," Selig told the newspaper. "Nor, for that matter, am I concerned with the overall health of the industry. It is in very good shape. You can't judge anything by looking at this snapshot in time.
"Everything we've ever asked of them, they've done it and then more," Selig told the Tribune. "I'm unhappy that a story [like this] reflects badly on the Chicago Cubs under Tom Ricketts. There is no reason anybody should have economic concerns. ... It's so unfair to Tom Ricketts and the family. I normally don't talk about our business, but I can't let this go on. This is just wrong.''
Okay, but why will we see such a decline in payroll? Because we have debt doesn't answer it. Many teams have debt.
Nine of MLB's 30 teams out of debt compliance, report says - ESPN
Ya, no consequences coming from the MLB, doesn't mean the debt doesn't matter or won't affect us financially or that Ricketts is exempt from paying people back because he owns the Cubs...
