Two minutes and counting... hopefully it's done. If not, we'll get the #10 pick to go with a no doubt top 5 next year.

Time's up.

Nah, I don't think this hot streak will last for the rest of the season. Every team has one of these each year... usually at least two. There's a tough September and final two and a half weeks of August coming.

Not that I'm rooting for the team to lose, cuz I'd love to see them somehow pull off a huge late run and get as close to .500 as they can. But, I look at thing realistically. Plus, do we really want that to happen and prompt certain guys to be retained in the same light that Quade was retained after last season?

That's our Cubs. And these weird winning streaks are partly due to the nature of baseball's randomness and partly due to the Astros and Pirates suddenly realizing they're supposed to suck

Cubs Sign Javier Baez
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 15 at 11:05pm CST]

The Cubs have signed ninth overall pick Javier Baez, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (on Twitter). He gets a $2.625MM bonus, according to Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com (on Twitter). Jet Sports Management represents the Florida high school shortstop.

Got lots of conflicting Tweets. Won't be very comfortable about this until Cubs.com releases something officially official, but signs point to "yes"...

Looks like all of the 1st round signings have been held until the last possible second... as MLBTR posted all of them (that haven't been signed before today) within 3-4 minutes of the deadline,

Looks like the Royals managed to sign Starling after all. Looked for a while he was going to end up going to Nebraska to play football. I was so hoping he'd be available at 9 this year. What a draft that would have been. Starling in the first round, Vogelbach in the 2nd... the Cubbies' own version of the bash brothers.

Mike Quade and the Cubs fucked themselves last year when they win-streaked all the way out of the top five. But all things considered I'm happy about this year's draft and signings, if all are confirmed.

So far I am too. I think we got 1st round talent with Baez and Vogelbach. The #3 DeVoss is already putting up decent numbers between Arizona and Boise. Zych and Scott have me pumped... and if we can land the biggest steal in the draft Maples... just WOW!

Hopefully the global signings the past year and this draft will help create the foundation for a competitive team for awhile. They are trying to build the team the right way. We must be patient though, especially with the raw players such as Dunston and Gretzky.

Seems like the Cubs are going to spend double what they spent on the draft this year. Maples got top 10 pick money apparently. Hopefully these guys are worth the wait.

DeVoss is a guy that I have been following pretty closely so far becuase not only is he fast but he actually apparently is capable of drawing a walk, which is a truly uniqure ability for a Cubs prospect not named Brett Jackson.

Unforunately we have to wait even longer on the global signings since the top guys were 16 year old kids. It'll probably be a couple years before they even end up in Mesa. It is a good thing that they've been this active in all aspects of getting amateur talent. It is just unforunate that we have to wait 5 years or more to see how good it really is.
