This has been a particularly slow draft signing period. The wait is painful, particularly when the Cubs are so bad.

I may not have paid as close attention, but isn't this sort of the usual pattern. You get a ton of guys that sign right away, and then a lot of the guys that have real options trickle in. And then there is a rush before the deadline again. I could be mistaken, but I agree with ace that it is slow because waiting to see if we can sign Vogelbach, Gretsky, Dunston, Maples, etc. is about all we have to look forward to right now.

Last year and the year before, the Cubs sign many draftees fast. And Ricketts gave a good budget for them to sign draftees. Get em' sign.

I do believe it...you may not but I do. I have faith in Ricketts and you don't...

What has he done to give u faith? il give u some examples why i have NO faith.

1: Had to borrow money from Demp to get Nady

2: Cut payroll by 10 mil, cut manager salarly by 5 mil, and STILL raised ticket prices

3: Pena had to defer money

4: Puts a FUCKING noodle in front of wrigley field. I lost all my faith in him on that one. Who the **** puts a noodle in front of a baseball field.

5: Last year number 1 draft pick was projected to be in 3-5th RD. Cant tell me it wasnt cause of money. They went cheap on that pick. If they really liked him could have gotten him in 2nd RD.

6: All he does is say how he going to do this and that but NOTHING is happening.

1: Had to borrow money from Demp to get Nady

He wasn't even legally allowed to add to the payroll last year as a result of the Cubs bankruptcy with the Trib before that.

2: Cut payroll by 10 mil, cut manager salarly by 5 mil, and STILL raised ticket prices

And he had just spent almost a billion dollars to purchase the Chicago Cubs (the team that essentially founded Major League Baseball, as it was them who founded the National League to replace the National Association and the AL wasn't founded for another 18 years and even then was a minor league), Wrigley Field, 25% of Comcast SportsNet, Mesa Cubs, DSL Cubs1, and DSL Cubs2. If you expected him to spend big right away after taking a billion dollar hit, then of course you are going to be disappointed.

3: Pena had to defer money

It will all be paid off by the end January 2012... not a big deal. And he didn't defer it, the Cubs deferred it in his contract, and he didn't have to agree to that.

4: Puts a FUCKING noodle in front of wrigley field. I lost all my faith in him on that one. Who the **** puts a noodle in front of a baseball field.

Someone who needs to make money so he can spend the money you want him to spend... the Cubs got money for it, and it is helping the Ricketts get rid of the financial hit taken when they purchased the Cubs... they can't spend big until they have money. And our payroll is still REALLY big, so I don't get how you always ***** about it being too low.

5: Last year number 1 draft pick was projected to be in 3-5th RD. Cant tell me it wasnt cause of money. They went cheap on that pick. If they really liked him could have gotten him in 2nd RD.

The Toronto Blue Jays (IIRC) were rumored to be taking him the the Supplemental 1st Round if he was available, so no they couldn't have. And that was Wilken, not Ricketts.

6: All he does is say how he going to do this and that but NOTHING is happening.

He's been owner for less than 2 seasons... shit takes time bro.

Yeah I mean Simpson was probably a cheap signing, but I fully believe its the guy they wanted.

Wilken has done good and if they can get their picks sign this year, it's expected to be his best draft.

Wilken is known to do that. He tends to take guys that stock is rising right around the draft, and so they sometimes look like reaches. He did it with Colvin a few years back, and if I am not mistaken he did a similar thing with drafting Rios in Toronto.

I will say there is one person in this organization I fully trust and thats Wilken. If he really thought Simpson was the guy then damnit, that's who I wanted to take too. It's not like the other sports where you can trade up/down to get the guy. If you really want him and don't think he will be there when you pick again then you have to take him. No matter what others think. You can't draft in order to make the critics happy.
