It won't be Castro Garza. The deal is close, but not done yet. The Red Sox owners are trying to keep Theo in town, but won't keep trying if he doesn't want to stay. Talks are on-going.

The latest from twitter...

David Kaplan Gut feeling tells me this will get done because Tom Ricketts will make the opportunity to enticing to pass up. Total power on baseball side.

They will be dumb to trade Jackson, he played really well in the minors last year and is hitting well for the USA.

Byrd is almost gone, Fonzie starting in the MLB is close to being done, who knows about Colvin, Campy 5th OF. So...they have to keep him!

I agree. I didnt see it but my dad said the BOS globe reporter was on CSN and said that BOS would want something MLB ready and usefull for BOS. Only position they need is SS and of course P.

Very true. Maybe the Cubs can make a quick deal for Ronnie Cedeno and Kyle Farnsworth. Send them to Boston.

What an absolute coup by the Cubs if Theo Epstein does leave Boston. May take a little while, but he will win a World Series there.

No possible way would they give up Castro.

Unfortunately, I can see Garza going in exchange for Lackey and his contract as part of the Theo deal. Garza used to pitch very well against the Red Sox so they probably think a lot of him.

Hopefully that's not what happened though.

Gammons (I don't trust him when anything that comes against Boston): Brett Jackson would be a good fit in compensation.

Boston is in no position to be asking for an upper echelon player or players in return for Epstein.

The reason is, they have a GM who obviously wants to be somewhere else. Where is their leverage in this situation?

They'd basically be saying:

"If you guys (the Cubs) don't give us Starlin Castro for Theo then we'll be forced to hold him to his contract next year and make for a potentially awkward situation being that our GM doesn't want to work for us anymore and may become disgruntled as a result."

Buster Olney Source: Epstein would be restricted, through agreement of parties, from taking employees to CHC with him, except in cases BOS green lights.

Sounds like this really getting close. If they thinking of things like that

Tom Loxas Epstein's title with the Cubs would be above his current title of executive vice president/general manager of the Red Sox,

Kind of a given
