Or....

This injury could be being over dramatized in order for him to slide to a team further back that wants to pick him. If you watched the injury there was nothing dramatic that caused it to happen.

He is showing a lot of improvement already and it's being downplayed based on Twitter doctors saying it's catastrophic. They could just as likely be wrong.
Nope…. Not likely wrong. I made a long post before. I’ll tag you. If all this doesn’t convince you, well… maybe you’ll hit the powerball too. But it does appear my reminder was needed.

And “nothing dramatic” happening, if you watch the injury… haven’t you ever heard people say that the non-contact injuries are often the worst? It’s a terrible sign he got this injured with “nothing dramatic” happening.

You're giving waaaay too much credit to doctors. This isn't a clear yes/no situation. The patella tendon is a critical part of knee stabilization and anchoring to your quad to your tibia. If it was so easy to diagnose injuries (in general), doctors wouldn't be getting it wrong over and over and over. You're talking the best doctors in the world working in a multi-billion dollar industry and they still get it wrong.

In this case, a doctor likely won’t say a lot more than “it’s healed”. But, the complexities of the injuries still come down to rebuilding strength rapidly around the injury... working through a possibly now stiffer tendon... working out any new imbalances... mental confidence... etc. You even have recent examples like Bradley Chubb who missed an entire year+, but then why expect Simmons to be very valuable before we see him hit a calendar year? ... "way ahead of schedule" or not. And if he's not at a point where he can perform at 100%, there's no way to adequately assess the risk in a workout. I'm not sure what doctor can go in there and tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that everything will be ok.

Also, this isn't just day 3 picks that are bums either. Look up other recent OL with the injury: Cole Strange (1st round pick) and Lucas Niang (3rd round pick). I'm not saying Simmons won't ever play, but it is to say he'll likely never reach what his potential was. He probably won't be a premiere LT in the league worthy of the drooling and high expectations. Of course, the Bears can gamble that he will, but they've already gambled once on a huge tendon tear with Kiran. I'm not sure it's wise to double down at the same position.

Here's what doctors say:

Also:

"A study just published in June of this year [2016] in the American Journal of Sports Medicine looked at orthopedic procedures on over 550 NFL athletes. And of all the different surgeries that these guys have, those who fared the worst when it comes to rate of return to play and performance metrics like yards gained and touchdowns scored, [it was] patellar tendon repair.

And their careers were shortened overall significantly.
It's not to say that one individual can't come back and be phenomenal, but it's telling you that the odds are against them in terms of returning to form."

Also:

According to Dr. Spindler, the study findings are a reality check for physicians and patients. The data may change expectations for recovery and reinforce the need for long-term rehabilitation after surgery.

“The fact is, these are massive injuries,” he says. “In spite of repairing and healing, the tendons often don’t come back anywhere near normal, and patients still have significant disability.”

Here's a 2nd round pick:
Injury update not good for 49ers former 2nd-round pick

Here was the highest paid center in the league:

Here's another 2nd round pick, multi-time Pro Bowler, LeCharles Bentley, who was forced to retire cause of this injury.

Wouldn't saying it is catastrophic be the opposite of downplaying it?

You're suggesting several people - presumably from different organizations - are pretending there is a serious injury that doesn't really exist so Simmons can fall to one (unnamed) team? And you're basing it on how it looked to you on the game film?

People are actually going to waste time watching teenagers walk across a stage all night instead of just checking twitter later? Holy losers.

Hate the trend I am seeing on these late mocks. 3 tackles in top 7. Warren to Bears.
Interesting…

5. Jacksonville Jaguars

Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

One of the reasons Liam Coen reversed course and took the Jaguars job is because of the opportunity he’d have to pick his own GM and help shape the football operation—and I think, as such, his fingerprints will be all over this pick. The one thing that gives me pause with Jeanty this high is the presence of analytics in the organization, which could nudge Coen and GM James Gladstone toward Tetairoa McMillan, a bigger receiver with parallels to what Coen won with in Tampa and Trevor Lawrence won with at Clemson.

All these morons keep mocking banks to LV to replace Kolton Miller. Idk why LV (with a lot of cap space) would let their best OL walk next year. I don't buy banks to LV at all. I think it is membou, tet or walker
I think the thought is Banks can play RT or guard also while they iron out the OL. He’s a high character and high floor choice. Miller isn’t going anywhere.

Membou is a better option at RT or G though. They are playing off Carroll and Sarkisian connection which would be dumb of the Raiders to value Sarkisians word over their actual scouting reports

As it should be.

As a fan, I want my GM to have confidence in his/his staff's evaluations and conviction in his picks. I want him to have zero concerns over fan perception when making his pick.

I don't really care about his confidence/conviction. I prefer him to be right.

Actually conviction can lead to trading up for a bust or passing up a guy who dropped because you're convinced your guy is the guy. I prefer a guy who understands that even the best best talent evaluators are wrong a lot and this keeps an open mind, looks at every angle.

Honestly if these guys have a lot of confidence in their picks they're stupid. It's like having confidence in rolling dice.
